Home.Barclays: “Is This the Tipping Point?”

Back in May, Barclays announced that it would be moving to a .Barclays domain name from .com “[i]n a move aimed at streamlining customer experience.” It looks like the company made the change very recently, and the financial services company website home page is now found on Home.Barclays.

If you visit Google this morning and perform a search for “Barclays,” the Barclays.com url is still the primary domain name indexed for Barclays’ website. When you click the link, you are redirected to the website found on Home.Barclays. I think this will likely be updated very soon, perhaps even today.

This is a big change for the company and is welcome news for people active in the new gTLD space. In a tweet this morning mentioning this change, Christopher Hofman Laursen asked, “Is this the tipping point for the new gTLDs?”

The company does not seem to have

Why I Retained the Elliot’s Blog Branding

When I rebranded my blog from ElliotsBlog.com to DomainInvesting.com a year and a half ago, I announced that I would remove the Elliot’s Blog branding at some point in the near future. As you can see from the logo and possibly from the daily summary newsletter, I have not yet removed this branding. This has not been a simple oversight, and I want to explain my rationale.

The DomainInvesting.com brand suits this blog much better than ElliotsBlog.com for a number of business reasons. I think it is more authoritative to people who don’t know me, and I also think it will eventually make it easier to sell the website whenever that time comes. For now though, I think it is important that people understand it is still a blog, and just about all of the articles I write have my opinion.

Bobbleheads.com Is All Grown Up

If you’ve been around the domain investment space for a few years, you probably know the story of  Bobbleheads.com. The short version is that Warren Royal, a longtime  domain investor, acquired Bobbleheads.com for $29,112 (and later Bobblehead.com for $36,000) and built a very large bobblehead business and brand on Bobbleheads.com.

Bobbleheads.com has received a considerable amount of press during the last several years. The business has been featured on Huffington Post, AdWeek, LA Times, Wall St. Journal, and quite a few other national publications. Most recently, Bobbleheads.com and Warren Royal were featured on an episode of CNN’s Mike Rowe: Somebody’s Gotta Do It. You can watch a video clip of Rowe’s visit  on CNN.com right now.

On his personal website, Mike Rowe discussed meeting with Warren and the

Will Brand Networks Rebrand as Shift?

When I first read about Brand Networks’ acquisition of Shift for a reported $50 million, my first thought was that Shift is an exceptional brand name. Both companies are in the social marketing / advertising space, and the deal appears to make sense for both of them based on the articles I read.

I am not familiar with either of these two companies, but I am curious if Brand Networks is going to rebrand as Shift at some point in the future to leverage the brand name and matching url.

Shift owns the exact match

Clutter Raises $2m But Clutter.com Not for Sale

TechCrunch published an article about a startup called Clutter that just raised $2 million in funding. Clutter not only offers storage services, but it also offers the pick-up and drop-off of items that need to be put in storage. It seems that Clutter is making it easier to use a storage company.

Clutter currently operates its website on the Clutter.io domain name. When I read about the recent funding round, I visited Clutter.com to see if anyone was operating on that domain and/or if Clutter had acquired or could acquire Clutter.com. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like an acquisition of Clutter.com is on the horizon.

On the homepage of Clutter.com, the domain name owner makes it pretty clear that Clutter.com is

My Review of Primary.com

Last September, I wrote an article about Primary.com and its founders. The day I learned the website was open for business, I placed an order for Hailey (3 years old) and Oliver (3 months old). Shortly thereafter, I received my first order from Primary, and I subsequently  placed a couple of other orders since then.

When Primary.com launched, they sent me a promo code I could use and share to give and receive free shipping without a minimum order amount. If you want to try out Primary, you can use ELLIOT on the checkout page to get free shipping for a year (it’s not an affiliate code).

I want to share my review of Primary.com:
