Bill Hartzer’s “SEO and the Not Com Revolution” Presentation

1

Bill Hartzer is a SEO strategist, and he has been pretty vocal about the new gTLD domain names. I saw a presentation he gave at the 2016 Rocks Digital Marketing Conference held last week at the Addison, Texas Convention Center, and I want to share it with you.

For those of you who have been following developments in the new gTLD space, many of the slides will look familiar. There has been ample discussion had about quite of few of the topics in Bill's presentation, but there may be some newer topics that you haven't seen yet.

If you have questions or comments about Bill's presentation, I am sure he will be willing to answer them. (more…) → Read More

Winner of the Coffee.club Subscription Is…

4

Last week, I announced a drawing for a free six month Coffee.club subscription valued at over $300. The subscription includes deliveries of two 13 ounce bags of coffee twice a month for six months. I compiled all of the entries into an Excel spreadsheet, and I used Random.org to select a random cell.

The winner of the subscription is Gary S. I will put Gary in touch with Bill McClure and the .Club Registry later on today so they can set up the subscription. Thank you to everyone who entered the drawing.

Coffee.club is currently featuring a special combination Black Friday, Cyber Monday, and Grand Opening sale with a 40% discount offer for gift and regular subscriptions. This offer is valid through December 1st using the code "DotClub" at checkout. The full details of the offer can be found on the website. If the coffee is as good as the coffee from Bill's Coffee.org website, then it will probably be a great deal for coffee drinkers.

As I mentioned in the original article, I was also given a (more…) → Read More

Sunday Updates

I'm in the middle of a daddy-daughter weekend, as my wife went out of town for a baby shower. I think we'll do a little apple picking, apple pie making, and maybe spend some time outside depending on the weather. I hope you have as much fun as I have!

I want to share some thoughts and updates that I have been compiling from the past week. You are also welcome to share your thoughts, feedback, or anything related to domain investing: (more…) → Read More

.Com Versus New gTLDs: Real World Test Results

25

Are .Com domain names truly better than the new gTLDs? Well, I have had my suspicions, but there was no way I was going to base my opinions. I decided to put some newly acquired domain names to the test, and use Google AdWords to reveal the results. While there's no really easy way to test the organic search results, using Google AdWords to drive traffic and test conversions was much faster and more reliable.

I set up two tests. One test used a .Com and a .Diamonds domain name. The other used a .Com and a .Menu domain name. In the first test, I was able to secure two keyword rich domain names: one with the keyword in the domain name, and the other with the keyword in the domain name and in the new gTLD.

I chose these domain names for the primary test:

www.3CaratDiamonds.com
www.3Carat.Diamonds

and I chose brand-related keywords for the second test. I chose these domain names for the second test:

www.MattitosMenu.com
www.Mattitos.menu

I set up two separate landing pages. One landing page for the "diamonds" test and → Read More

Creative Urinal Marketing From NamesCon

urinal soccer

The Domainers Choice Awards were held last weekend in Dana Point, California, and I wasn't able to make it because of a wedding in New York. I was checking out some of the event photos, and I want to share a photo that Bill Hartzer posted on Flickr.

As you can see, NamesCon had a creative marketing tactic in the men's restroom. Because of the World Cup that is taking place in Brazil, NamesCon outfitted the urinals with a mini soccer ball and goal,  and I suppose the objective of the urinal soccer game is pretty obvious. The "grass" was branded with the NamesCon logo.

I don't know if they did something similar in the ladies room, but I did not see any photos of the ladies room in Bill's photo stream.

I think this is a great attention grabber, and it's also nice to see NamesCon sponsor a domain industry event. → Read More

Bill Hartzer’s NamesCon Coverage

8

If you weren't able to attend the NamesCon conference this week, I think you may have missed out on a great opportunity. That said, search engine expert Bill Hartzer shared his notes about several of the panels and keynote speakers that he attended, and you can check out his blog to see what his observations and takeaways were from the sessions.

To make it easier for you, I shared links to each of the articles. I am sure Ron Jackson, Morgan Linton, and others will share some insight as well, but Bill's notes are pretty comprehensive.

Panels and Keynotes discussed by Bill Hartzer:

There may be other posts that I didn't see, and you can navigate to them by visiting Bill's blog. I don't think anyone else had comprehensive write ups of the panels and discussions, so you may benefit from check those articles out, especially if you weren't able to attend.

I plan to share → Read More
