Bay Area Make A Wish Official “Batkid” Video

I am sure that you heard about how the Bay Area chapter of the Make A Wish organization granted Miles Scott’s wish to become “Batkid” for a day in San Francisco last November. There was coverage all over the news that day, and people who watched the event shared videos on Twitter and Facebook throughout the day.

This isn’t related to domain investing at all, but I want to share the official Batkid video that was created and shared by Make-A-Wish Greater Bay Area on the organizations YouTube page yesterday. This video is almost 10 minutes in length, but I think starting the day by watching this video will raise your spirits.

It was awesome to see such a large group of people come together to support a cancer (leukemia) survivor’s special wish, and the video is very cool.

Wishing You a Merry Christmas

One unique aspect of investing in domain names is that you can work on your business as much or as little as you would like. Many of us work 7 days a week at the detriment of personal relationships. I hope you’re able to take some time off from your business as the year winds down.

Merry Christmas to those of you celebrating today. I hope you are enjoying the day with friends and family. I wish you happiness and good health.

Water School Wins STARS Foundation Award

The Water School  is a great  a non-profit organization whose mission is to  “provide simple, safe, strategic, and sustainable clean water solutions to the developing world.”  Yesterday morning, Gregg McNair, a Director at the Water School, emailed me to let me know that the organization was chosen as a  STARS Foundation Award recipient, and they will receive a $100,000 grant plus other incentives.

The STARS Foundation is a Saudi backed and London-based philanthropy fund. According to the email I received announcing the news, “Stars Foundation was established by Al-Dabbagh Group in 2001, and counts President Bill Clinton and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah as its Founding Patrons.”

This award is not only great for financial reasons, but the organization

Video Trailer: Lana Del Rey Short Film, “Tropico”

This summer in Rolling Stone, it was announced that Lana Del Rey was set to star in a short film called “Tropico,” directed by Anthony Mandler and produced by Rick Rubin. The full length film is set to debut on December 5, although I am not sure where it will be released. I saw that someone shared the Tropico trailer on Facebook this morning, so I thought I would share it with you.

In case you aren’t aware, Lana (aka Lizzy Grant) is the daughter of domain investor Rob Grant.

Why Red Sox World Series Win Was Meaningful to Me

I don’t write many non-domain name related articles, but this is going to be one of them. For the last few weeks, I’ve been spending some of my evenings either at Fenway Park or at home watching the Boston Red Sox play in the postseason. Seeing them win the World Series at Fenway Park last night was something I won’t ever forget.

I grew up a Red Sox fan. I didn’t go to many games as a kid, but I have several ticket stubs from when I went to Fenway Park. Up until this season, the most memorable game I attended was Roger Clemens’ final game as a member of the Red Sox. I went with my family, and remember a long standing ovation as he walked off the field to Elton John’s Rocket Man.

For ten years, I

Alexa Ranking Change With URL Change

Alexa Ranking

One of the unfortunate things about a domain name change is that the Alexa ranking is going to be impacted. As of the day after switching urls, my blog (ElliotsBlog.com) currently has an Alexa ranking of 17,063, which I think is fairly strong. On the other hand, DomainInvesting.com, my new url, has an Alexa ranking of over 1.7 million.

Because of the way Alexa calculates its rank, I don’t believe I can tell Alexa that I switched domain names and have the former url’s ranking be combined with the current ranking. Most likely,
