Thankful This Thanksgiving

We are celebrating Thanksgiving here in the US, and I am fortunate to be spending the holiday with my wife’s family. I have a lot to be thankful for this year.

I am very thankful to you for visiting my blog, and I am especially thankful to those of you who share your thoughts and advice in the comment section. Even when we disagree about something, I appreciate that you are willing to spend your time discussing various topics.

I am thankful for the people who have written articles on my blog this year. Others are able to share expert advice and insight that I couldn’t share, and I am thankful they are willing to write here.

I am very thankful for the companies that advertise on my blog. I could not spend the time researching and writing if it were not for the commitment of the companies who advertise. Additionally, I appreciate the insight and information that people share with me to keep the discussion topics interesting.

Finally, I am thankful that my family is understanding when it comes to writing this blog. News stories break at all hours, and my wife is always understanding when I need to work on something business related.

If you are celebrating Thanksgiving today, I hope you have a great day! If you aren’t celebrating, I hope you find some good domain name deals while the rest of us are celebrating 🙂

Robin Hood Films to Premiere Dirty Dealing

Jon Schultz and Chris Hood are probably best known in domain investing circles for selling the Ebola.com domain name. They are also film makers and partners in a film company called Robin Hood Films, and the company is set to premiere its new film, Dirty Dealing 3D, starring actor Michael Madsen. Schultz is the Executive Producer on the film and Hood is the Writer, Producer and Director.

The company’s domain investments have helped them finance and grow their film business. According to Hood, “It’s the success of the domain business that got the film business going” Dirty Dealing 3D isn’t their first foray into the film business. Hood also mentioned that “the previous film we were involved in sold to Lionsgate, so we’ve got a bit of momentum going.”

You can visit the Robin Hood Films website for the full details about the film, and Chris Hood shared a brief synopsis with me:

Brief Tribute to Derek Jeter

8

I tuned in to the New York Yankees game on Thursday night, just in time to see Derek Jeter drive in the go ahead runs against Baltimore. I continued watching, and I couldn’t help but root for Jeter when he came to bat with the game on the line in the 9th. As a Red Sox fan, this feeling surprised me because I have rooted against Jeter and the Yankees for so many years.

As I watched various shots of Jeter during the game, it made me think back to all of the times I watched him play. There were countless times Jeter came up with a clutch play against my Red Sox. Although many people criticize Jeter’s fielding, I was at the game in 2004 when he went crashing into the stands after making a great  catch. In that game, I remember Manny Ramirez hit a go-ahead home run in extra innings, only to see the Yankees come back with two in the bottom of the inning to win the game. I  attend quite a few Red sox games every year, and that game is still one of the most memorable to me.

The Red Sox and Yankees rivalry transcends the game of baseball to me. I grew up in the Boston area, and I moved to Manhattan  for graduate school in 2002, right when the rivalry heated up again. For 10 years, I wore various Red Sox caps on a daily basis, and I endured some cheers and boos along the way. While in NYC, the Red Sox were a  connection with home, and Derek Jeter was my team’s nemesis.

It turns out that my introduction to Derek Jeter came in the

How I Fixed Messages on My iPhone 5S

3

When Apple sends out an update for my iPhone, I typically wait a few days to install it in case there are bugs that are noticed after the update is released. When I noticed the red icon indicating a software update, I decided to install iOS 8 for my iPhone 5S right away.

I don’t typically send many text messages, so it wasn’t until several hours after I installed iOS 8 that I noticed there was something wrong with Messages for my iPhone. I tried to send a photo text message, and it didn’t get delivered. I followed it up with other text messages, and they all seemed to time out. I turned off wifi hoping that could have been an issue and it didn’t resolve itself. I restarted my iPhone a few times, but turning it off didn’t resolve the issue.

Q3 Estimated Tax Deadline

0

Today is September 15, and if you are a US taxpayer who pays quarterly estimated taxes, today is the day 2014 third quarter estimated taxes are due (they can be postmarked 9/15). Since many individuals who are in the domain space pay estimated taxes, I wanted to give you a reminder about today’s deadline.

I have mailed in my federal estimated quarterly taxes and my state quarterly taxes, and I hope you don’t forget about the deadline if your taxes are due, too. If you haven’t mailed your tax estimates yet, today is that day to get that done!

You can read more about US federal taxes and estimated taxes on the IRS website (pdf).

Central Park Raccoon

image

I thought I would share a unique photo I took in Central Park in New York City. It’s not every day that you see a raccoon walking around in Central Park in the middle of the day. In fact, in the ten years I lived in Manhattan, I can only recall seeing a raccoon a handful of times.

It’s a bit disconcerting to see this because I hear that these nocturnal animals don’t regularly come out during the day around groups of people unless they are sick. For those who may care, this photo was taken at the East 72nd Street entrance of the park.

Anyway, I thought I would share this photo with you.
