Blake Irving Discusses H-1B Visas on CNBC

Earlier this week, GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving penned a highly cited article on LinkedIn discussing H-1B visas. The strong lead-in to the article shows how dire Blake believes the situation is right now:  “The entire US economy is at stake with Trump’s draft work-visa order.”

I don’t recall seeing GoDaddy take such a leading position on a politicized topic such as this. I don’t know enough about the issue to have an educated opinion right now, but I admire  Blake for being brave enough to take such a public stance on the topic.

This morning, Blake made an appearance on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street to discuss his position regarding H-1B visas. The video is embedded below.

Blake Irving: “We fully support the investors”

Product Hunt LogoEarlier today, GoDaddy CEO Blake Irving participated in a Product Hunt LIVE AMA session. During the course of this chat, participants had the opportunity  to ask Blake just about any question related to GoDaddy, the tech space, and beyond.

There were several questions that Blake answered regarding domain names and even domain name investors. In one response to a question about whether “domain resellers / sharks” are a problem, Blake came out in defense of people who invest in domain names. Here’s what he said:

GoDaddy Announces .net Price Increase

GoDaddy LogoMy GoDaddy representative emailed me (and other clients) to let us know about a price increase for .net domain name registrations, renewals, and transfers. The price increase is a result of the registry’s price increase that is being passed along to customers. The $1 price increase goes into effect on February 1, 2017.

I presume other domain registrars are going to also increase the prices for .net domain names. It is possible that some registrars will increase their prices by more than $1/per name, and it is also possible that some registrars (that have higher prices) will not pass the increase to its customers. I would think it would make sense to try and renew or transfer .net domain names prior to February 1 to save some money if your registrar is also increasing the cost of .net domain names

The content of the email that was sent to me from GoDaddy is shared below. Check with your registrar for details:

BabyPhat.com Expires & Up for Auction

It looks like the BabyPhat.com domain name has expired and is currently up for auction at GoDaddy Auctions. The domain name had been associated with the once popular Baby Phat clothing and footwear brand.

If you visit BabyPhat.com right now, there’s a message on the domain name indicating that it is currently in auction after it expired and was not renewed in December:

“Embarrassing” and “Inappropriate” Domain Name in Auction

Every now and again, various websites produce lists of “embarrassing” or “inappropriate” domain names that are used by companies. These domain names typically have an embarrassing, humorous, or off-color meaning when words are mashed  together in a domain name format.

This morning, I was looking through a list of domain names coming up for auction on GoDaddy when a domain name stood out: molestationnursery.com. Why the heck would someone ever think this domain name was a good idea?! Making it even more interesting is that the domain name was created back in 1999 and has been renewed for all of these years! Further, why would anyone bid on a domain name like this at auction?!

I thought about it for a second and remembered seeing this domain name on a few lists of embarrassing and accidentally inappropriate domain names. According to Snopes.com,
