Salesforce.com Now Owns Community.com

Salesforce.comIt appears that Salesforce.com may have acquired the Community.com domain name, as the company is now listed the registrant of the domain name. According to Whois records as of October 15, 2013, the Community.com domain name is now owned by Salesforce.com. The Whois records from October 14, 2013 and prior show the owner of Community.com as CBS Interactive, Inc. Prior to that, it was owned by CNET, which was acquired by CBS Interactive, Inc.

Based on the fact that I didn’t see Community.com listed for sale anywhere, nor did I see any record or report of a sale, I can only assume the domain name changed hands privately for an undisclosed figure. If I had to guess, I would say that Community.com is worth seven figures.  I reached out to the Whois contacts at Salesforce for more information, but the lead contact is currently traveling.

There are a couple of ways I think the domain name may be used by Salesforce. First, and probably the most likely is the Salesforce

Will CNN Buy Unguarded.com?

CNN has been promoting a new television show during the MLB baseball playoffs on TBS, and I assume they’ve been promoting it elsewhere, including on their websites and within their television network. The weekly sports show is called Unguarded with Rachel Nichols, and the show’s website appears within the main CNN website.

BuyDomains is the owner of Unguarded.com. If you visit the landing page and click the “for sale” link at the top, you’re taken to a page on the company’s website imploring the visitor to contact the company to acquire the domain name using one of the company’s domain brokers. If you visit Afternic, you can see

Company Rebrands as Revenue.com

Revenue.comYesterday afternoon, a press release published in the Wall Street Journal announced that a company called VIRURL, Inc. has smartly rebranded itself as Revenue.com. In the video I embedded below, company CO-Founder and CEO Francisco Diaz-Mitoma explains what the company does. The video hasn’t been updated to reflect the name change, and you can hear and see how the original brand name might be confusing to some.

According to the press release, this advertising company’s mission is “giving publishers the needed tools to earn more ad revenue,” and Revenue.com would help them get that message out there. Perhaps it’s just me, but a name like Revenue.com sounds like it would be a financial or accounting companny rather than an advertising company. Based on its mission, it will probably be a good fit.

The Revenue.com domain name has been owned by

Warren Royal in Wall St. Journal: $2 Million+ in Annual Bobblehead Sales

It’s great to see friends and colleagues getting mainstream recognition related to their business activities, and I want to share an article from the Wall St. Journal that featured Warren Royal, the founder of Bobbleheads.com, who built a successful bobblehead toy business on this exact match domain name.

If you follow baseball, you probably heard that the New York Yankees honored Mariano Riviera with a bobblehead doll giveaway, and due to some apparent truck troubles, the bobblehead dolls were delayed and 18,000 fans were given vouchers for a free bobblehead. People were upset, and the fact that they had to wait in line during and after the game to trade their voucher for a bobblehead made things worse. Several sports and other news outlets picked up on this story.  My first thought was that I hope Warren’s company wasn’t involved in this fiasco!

The WSJ article discussed the Yankees bobblehead situation, but it also discussed bobbleheads in general, touching on the popularity of these figurines. I honed in on the section about Warren, and the business he built is pretty amazing:

Northwest Registered Agent Buys Great EMD For Its Business

I saw a press release this morning that I want to share with you because it highlights a wise exact match domain (EMD) acquisition from a company that has an established brand but wanted to let customers know about its expanded service offerings.

Northwest Registered Agent, a company that offers registered agent and other services to companies looking to start a business, announced the launch of StartingABusiness.com. In my opinion, this is an excellent complementary domain name for the company.

The company’s name, Northwest Registered Agent, would lend itself to believe that they may only offer registered agent services. StartingABusiness.com is going to help them tell potential clients that they offer much more than these services. Here’s how  Drake Forester, Chief Legal Strategy Officer at Northwest Registered Agent explained it:
