Last week, Amazon announced it had secured the naming rights for the new arena in Seattle, Washington that would be home to a new NHL team and the WNBA’s Seattle Storm. Amazon also announced the new arena would be known as Climate Pledge Arena.

Amazon registered the matching ClimatePledgeArena.com domain name on the same day the news was announced. The company must have had great trust that the news would not leak out before the announcement was made publicly.

Interestingly, I also noticed the company registered quite a few other arena related domain names in the last few days via my DomainTools Registrant Monitor tool. Perhaps this is in anticipation of a potential future name change, or perhaps the company is just covering its bases.

Here is a sample of the different domain names Amazon has registered, keeping in mind this is not an exhaustive list but just some of the names:

On July 3, Charlie Gilbert would have celebrated her 51st birthday. I am sure it would have been filled with lots of good food and drinks. Probably some Facetime calls and Zoom birthday wishes as we all deal with this pandemic.

To celebrate Charlie’s birthday virtually, Brian Gilbert has declared July 3rd an official holiday known as Lemon Cupcake Day. Here’s what Brian posted in the event page on Facebook:

Domain investor Andy Booth tweeted about his recent acquisition of XPay.com, a domain name he called his “favorite pick-up in the last decade.” Knowing some of the domain names he has bought and sold over the past ten years, that is a pretty strong statement:

I would go as far as to say that I think https://t.co/LjE8E8pbzV may be my favorite pick-up in the last decade. I am always looking for names of quality with obvious commercial application – that’s what something like XPay has over a random word or letter combination.

Domain investor and broker Andrew Rosener replied to Andy’s tweet, mentioning that the X at the beginning of XPay.com could limit the domain name to an adult related business:

I know there are a bunch of domain investors who have domain investing vanity license plates. In Massachusetts, our vanity plates can only have a maximum of 6 letters, and DotCom and Com are both taken already. There aren’t really any other domain industry license plate that would make sense for me.

Adam Strong shared a photo he took at Lowe’s last night of two Illinois vanity license plates that seem to have picked the perfect parking spots. A car with the “Flip” license plate was parked next to Adam’s truck with the “Domains” license plate.

Pretty serendipitous.
