Bret Fausett Announces .Game Win

In a creatively written tweet posted yesterday afternoon, Uniregistry General Counsel Bret Fausett announced that the company prevailed in its application for the .Game gTLD extension. Fausett posted a link to the He Got Game music video and wrote “WeGot.Game.”

There was some serious competition for the .Game registry. In total, 5 applicants applied to operate the .Game registry, including

.Flowers Inquiry Pages + Frank Schilling Comments About North Sound Names

I read Mike Berkens’ article about how over 24k .Flowers domain names were registered after the extension went into general availability. In the article, he wrote that “it appears that North Sound Names, owned by the principal of Uniregistry, registered over 98% of the domain names.”

In my opinion, the most obvious .Flowers domain names are geographic (city, town, state, region…etc) domain names, and I wanted to see if I could find any decent unregistered names of that variety in light of Mike’s aforementioned article. I searched for quite a few city .Flowers domain names, and all were registered.

Ordinarily, this wouldn’t be all that interesting, except for the landing page that appeared on all of the domain names I searched, which I took a screenshot of and shared:

Why I Bought 2 .Link Domain Names

I don’t own very many new gTLD domain names. A couple of weeks ago, I bought two more. I now own Elliot.Link and ElliotSilver.Link. I didn’t buy them for investment purposes, as I am currently using them to forward people to my LinkedIn profile.

At NamesCon, Frank Schilling gave a keynote speech, and he discussed some synergy between .Link domain names and LinkedIn. I thought that made sense, as it seems much easier to remember a url such as Elliot.Link or ElliotSilver.Link rather than the longer LinkedIn.com/in/elliotsilver url that is the default url for my LinkedIn profile. This is especially the case for people whose names are used by others for their shortened LinkedIn profile link.

I primarily use LinkedIn as

Cayman Islands Journal Article About Frank Schilling and Uniregistry

There are a few mainstream news articles about domain industry people and topics that I still recall despite their publication years ago. The most memorable of these articles, Masters of their Domains, was written by Paul Sloan in December of 2005. I wasn’t all that active in the domain space until a year after the article was published, but I know most of the people and it’s still cool to read about that exciting time in the domain space.

I think another mainstream article you’ll enjoy reading is about Frank Schilling and his Grand Cayman based company, Uniregistry. Frank Schilling: Unlocking the value of domain names was published today in the Caymans Island Journal, and it offers an inside look into Frank Schilling’s business life and company.

You’re going to want to read the article in full, but I want to share a few excerpts  from the article I found particularly interesting:

Amazon Now Using Amazon.BlackFriday

As Frank Schilling announced via Twitter this afternoon, Amazon is now using the Amazon.BlackFriday domain name.  .BlackFriday is a new gTLD extension that is operated by Uniregistry.

The company is not using it as a standalone website, but they are forwarding the domain name to a 2014 Black Friday deals landing page within the Amazon.com website. I would not be surprised if the company is using Amazon.BlackFriday in marketing materials.

Some people might pooh pooh the fact that

Uniregistry Now Accepting Topcoin

According to a tweet from Uniregistry founder Frank Schilling, Uniregistry is now accepting Topcoin to pay for domain registrations across all extensions. By the end of the day today, Topcoin can also be used for inbound domain transfers and renewals across all extensions. I was told company will soon accept the cryptocurrency to pay for premium domain names offered by the registry, such as registry reserved .Link, .Help, .Property and other domain names.

I was told “Uniregistry customers receive 50% of their purchase in topcoin at no additional charge when they buy, transfer or renew a domain name. They can redeem 20-35% of registration, transfer or renewal purchases in Topcoin. Early in the new year you will be able to redeem up to 100% of premium domain name purchases in Topcoin.

Topcoin (TPC) is a cryptocurrency that
