DNS: “We May Have the Perfect Alternative For You”

dotlink-imgThis afternoon, I received an email from DomainNameSales.com that said, “We may have the perfect alternative  for you to [Redacted].com.” The brief email continues, “Many great names, including those ending in .LINK, are available now!” Frank Schilling’s Uniregistry operates the .Link domain registry, and the company began selling .Link domain names today. It is one of the first “generic” new gTLD domain extensions that has been introduced.

The redacted domain name was one that I had inquired about back in 2006 directly to the owner. The owner of the domain name had entered my email into the DNS offer management system, and when a DNS broker followed up last year, I expressed surprise about receiving the inquiry. As a result, my lead was sent to the dismiss folder because I was obviously not going to move forward to purchase this domain name.

I believe I received today’s email because the owner of the domain name signed up for the Uniregistry affiliate program and my lead was considered a dead lead. As sort of a last ditch effort to make money from the dismissed lead, I was emailed about the opportunity to buy the keyword .Link domain name, which is not currently registered.

I think this tactic is pretty clever.

Sedo Refutes Frank Schilling’s Assertion that DNS is #1

On Monday morning, I had a conversation with Frank Schilling, and he told me that Domain Name Sales recently “became the largest parking/sales company both in traffic and name count.”  Frank let me know that Domain Name Sales now has over 2.5 million domain names on its parking platform, including .com, .net, .org, and ccTLD domain names.

Yesterday afternoon, I had lunch with Sedo broker Dave Evanson, and we briefly spoke about the article I had published the prior day. Dave let me know that he believes Sedo has more than 2.5 million active domain names on its platform, which would make it the largest parking company. I asked if the company could share some details about the total number of names parked with Sedo, and I received additional information from Norman Hamel, Sedo’s Director of Sales and Operations in North America.

According to Norman:

Frank Schilling: We Are Now the Largest Parking Company [Updated]

When Frank Schilling launched his parking company Internet Traffic (now under the Domain Name Sales branding) in 2011, he won a considerable amount of business away from competitors. At the time, many early adopters reported a rise in PPC revenue, which was a change from years of declining PPC earnings.

In May of 2011, I reported that Internet Traffic was quickly gaining steam, according to DailyChanges.com. In August, I reported that Internet Traffic may have passed Domain Sponsor in terms of the number of domain names parked on the IT nameservers.

According to a note I received from Frank Schilling this morning, “this past weekend we became the

(Super Bowl) Sunday Updates!

It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and although I am not nearly as excited as I would be if the Patriots were playing, I am looking forward to the game tonight. Whether the Broncos or Seahawks win, I hope the loser of big Super Bowl Bet between Enom and Name.com films the Chris or Jared visit in their office.
