$500 Contest: Crowdsourcing a Website Idea

A colleague that I (Elliot Silver) have done business with in the past, Lance Raab, approached me with an interesting crowdsourcing idea, and I would like to try it out on my blog. His article is below, and he is offering some serious prize money for the winner. Lance will select the winner of the contest and will be responsible for paying the prize. Aside from hosting this article on my blog, I am not participating in the contest.

I own the domain name IdeasOnDemand.com, and I am planning on developing it into a revenue generating website.   (I also have the matching Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn names, etc).     I have a few ideas; however, I would like to explore all possible avenues before going down a specific path.

I decided to try something different and approached Elliot with the idea of engaging his readers to help me generate ideas by holding a contest, and he has generously agreed.

To participate in the contest, please

Andrew HazenAndrew Hazen is an Internet entrepreneur turned angel investor who founded Angel Dough Ventures. In 2011, Andrew’s company, Prime Visibility, was acquired for $36 million in cash. Andrew has done well for himself, and I want to share an interesting tidbit I learned when reading an interview he did for New York Enterprise Report magazine.

Andrew spent nearly $20,000 on the Coupons.info domain name and he turned it into a big money maker. Here’s what he had to say about the purchase and subsequent income: “Another bold decision was to purchase  www.Coupons.info  for $17,600 in 2010 (yes .info, not .com). Sure enough, I was able to generate more than $50k a month in revenue from the site.”

I reached out to Andrew, and I was able to learn a bit more about the domain name and its history. The domain name was acquired

Domain Boardroom, the popular private domain forum with a membership of about 250 active domain investors,    has been advertising-free since its inception. That is changing, and the forum is now offering limited advertising opportunities in  conjunction  with DBR’s Fun Fest.

I asked Donna Mahony to provide details about the advertising opportunities that are available, and Donna provided the following information:
