“Coach” Brandon Abbey Gives Escrow.com Post Game Press Conference

Escrow.com has made it to the second round of the    “Small Business, Big Game” contest being held by Intuit. The overall winner of the contest will win a free commercial that will air during the Super Bowl. This would be huge for one of the best companies in the domain space, and I want to help support the company’s effort, especially since they are always there to support the domain industry.

Escrow.com CEO Brandon Abbey and the Escrow.com team posted a fun video today that I want to share with you. In the video,  “Coach” Brandon Abbey delivers an “after game” press conference to discuss how Escrow.com helps keep transactions safe and secure.

Check out the video and be sure to vote for Escrow.com (you can vote every day).

Steve Banfield Named SVP & GM, Registrar Services at Enom & Name.com

When I do business with a company, I like to know the chain of command in case I run into issues that aren’t resolved at the account management level. I don’t like to escalate issues unnecessarily, but it’s good to know who to contact when a situation requires it.

I saw a tweet from eNom this morning announcing that Demand Media named Steve Banfield Senior Vice President and General Manager of Registrar Services. In this role, Banfield is essentially the senior management staff at eNom and Name.com, the domain registrar it acquired in either December of 2012 or January of 2013. I believe Banfield was hired back in August.

Banfield is a tech industry veteran who has an MBA from Harvard. Here’s more information about his background (from his LinkedIn profile):

Warren Royal in Wall St. Journal: $2 Million+ in Annual Bobblehead Sales

It’s great to see friends and colleagues getting mainstream recognition related to their business activities, and I want to share an article from the Wall St. Journal that featured Warren Royal, the founder of Bobbleheads.com, who built a successful bobblehead toy business on this exact match domain name.

If you follow baseball, you probably heard that the New York Yankees honored Mariano Riviera with a bobblehead doll giveaway, and due to some apparent truck troubles, the bobblehead dolls were delayed and 18,000 fans were given vouchers for a free bobblehead. People were upset, and the fact that they had to wait in line during and after the game to trade their voucher for a bobblehead made things worse. Several sports and other news outlets picked up on this story.  My first thought was that I hope Warren’s company wasn’t involved in this fiasco!

The WSJ article discussed the Yankees bobblehead situation, but it also discussed bobbleheads in general, touching on the popularity of these figurines. I honed in on the section about Warren, and the business he built is pretty amazing:

Nokta Domains Relaunches Website

Nokta DomainsI received an email from Nokta Domains‘ Kubra Koseler, and she wanted to let me know the company recently relaunched its website. I think the redesign is worth mentioning because of the company’s end user reach and potential for that to impact our business.

One thing you will notice right away is a group photo of the Nokta employees. It seems a number of companies in the domain space are doing this, including Domain Holdings and Name.com to name two. Another thing you’ll notice is that the website is entirely in English, despite the company’s Turkish roots (they do have a Turkish language version).

Along with the aesthetic changes to its website, the company made some changes to its

Coffee.org Offering Free Box of K Cup Samples

Last week, I reached out to a number of companies and people that are involved in the domain space to see if there was interest in doing a giveaway to readers of my blog. Bill McClure of Coffee.org (as well as  Bouquet.com) made an offer on behalf of his company, and I want to share it with those of you who are coffee lovers:
