CNNSi.com Sells for $5,500

CNNSi.com was launched in 1997 as a collaboration between CNN and Sports Illustrated. At the time of the launch, CNN/Si Executive Producer Danny Greenberg said this of the fledgling website: “[w]ith more than 100,000 pages of content, ranging from real-time scores and statistics to the probing profiles of athletes for which SI is famous, CNNSI.com provides unparalleled access to sports information on the Internet.”

Following the demise of the CNN/Si brand, the CNNSi.com domain name expired, and it went to auction after being caught by DropCatch.com last week. The auction for CNNSi.com ended today, and the winning bid was

CNNSi.com in Pending Delete Status

According to the CNNSi Wikipedia page, “CNN Sports Illustrated (CNNSI) was a 24-hour sports news channel. It was created by Time Warner, bringing together its CNN and Sports Illustrated brands and related resources.” CNNSi.com was the domain name that was used for the channel’s website.

I was looking at NameJet this morning, and I saw that CNNSi.com was in pending delete status. CNNSi.com currently has a $901 high bid at NameJet with 64 backorders. CNNSi.com is currently registered at CSC Corporate Domains. Prior to the domain name entering its pending delete status, it was registered to Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., parent company of CNN.

Sedo Great Domains April Auction Results

The Great Domains monthly auction for April concluded today, and the sales results are below. In total, eight domain names were sold in this auction. Veilingen.nl was the largest sale at 31000 EUR (approximately $33,575 USD). I believe Veilingen means something related to auctions in Dutch.

There were four 3 letter domain names sold in this auction. Two of those sales were .com domain names. Interestingly, only two of the ten total sales were .com domain names. Four of the sales were ccTLD domain names.

The full list of sold domain names was published below. Keep in mind that this auction concluded today, and it is likely that the buyers have not completed their purchases yet. As such, these deals should be considered pending until Sedo officially reports the domain names as sold.

Heritage Auctions Announces June Domain Auction

Aron Meystedt of Heritage Auctions sent out an email announcing a June domain name auction. The June 25th live auction will be held in San Francisco, and it will consist of 30 domain names. Specifically, HA is looking for one word .com domain names as well as 2 and 3 letter .com domains. I presume short numerics will also be accepted.

In case you have an interest in submitting domain names for review or bidding on domain names at auction, Aron’s email with further details is published below. To contact Aron, use AronM (At) HA.com.

We are still accepting submissions for our June 25th 30-lot domain name auction.
This auction will be held at Heritage’s office in San Francisco – 478 Jackson Street.
More information about the auction will come at a later date.
Once again, we will limit the inventory to 30 total lots. Our buyers are expecting unique opportunities
and attractive reserve prices, so that’s what we need to offer them.

Send over your one word .com names as well as your very short 2 and 3 letter .com domains.
We will market and PR the event heavily, and we will do our best to pull in the bay area media and high net worth buyers.
Auctions are about liquidity and high visibility. This is your chance to sell your names on the open market, with
a great deal of advertising and PR pushing your assets.

Send over domains that are similar to what we’ve sold in the past – and let’s make the reserve prices (if any) attractive to pull in bidders.
We sold 20 of 29 lots in the last auction (New York). The total is now over $1.3MM – with the post auction sales that occurred.

Names like:
Digital.com, Classic.com, Luxe.com and Import.com have sold recently.
Short names like NL.com, SIE.com and RSL.com are always appealing.
In fact, I was on Bloomberg Radio two weeks ago discussing the NL.com sale – and the domain aftermarket. Every bit of exposure for the domain aftermarket is good.

If you are located in the bay area, I look forward to meeting you in person!

Videos.de Sells for 50k EUR at Great Domains Auction

Sedo’s monthly Great Domains auction concluded today, and the largest sale was Videos.de, which sold for 50,000 EUR ($55,975 USD at today’s currency conversion rate). MNB.com was the second highest sale at 22,500 EUR ($25,192 USD at today’s currency conversion rate).

Although many of the domain names received 4 and 5 figure bids, only 9 of the domain names were sold at auction today. There were quite a few three letter .com domain names up for sale, and most did not hit their reserve prices. The auction grossed over $100,000 worth of sales.

Listed below are the domain names that sold with their sale prices. Keep in mind that since the auction closed today, payments for these domain names likely have not yet been remitted.

Buying.com: Largest Sale of Year for NameJet

Buying.com was sold in a private domain auction at NameJet yesterday for a sale price of $69,200. There were 256  bidders who participated in the auction.  The Whois information lists Domain Capital as the current registrant, but I do not know if the domain name was sold by the company or an owner who financed this domain name using Domain Capital.

I reached out to Jonathan Tenenbaum, General Manager at NameJet, and he confirmed that this  auction was the largest auction of 2015 on NameJet. “We are really happy to have held this auction on NameJet. It is our biggest sale so far this year and it is one of those deals that was very good for both the buyer and the seller,” he told me.

At one point in time, the Buying.com domain name was owned by
