Daily Poll: Do You Care About Extra GoDaddy Auctions Data?

4

GoDaddy has been adding extra data to its GoDaddy Auctions listings. In the last year or so, the company added data points such as the appraised value and now the traffic and revenue estimates for domain names in the expiry stream. The domain name age and some other data have also been available on the auction listing pages. The company is likely considering the addition of other data that could influence bids.

I use some of the data provided by GoDaddy to make bidding decisions. The domain name’s age is somewhat important to me, and it is easier to have this information directly on the auction page rather than having to do a Whois search. I don’t use all of the data though. It might be helpful to know if other popular extensions are registered to see if other registrants are finding the keyword / term of use to them.

Do you use the data provided by GoDaddy on the auction pages? Separately, do you think the company could provide more information to help evaluate domain names? Vote in the poll below and share your thoughts in the comment section.

Daily Poll: Have You Accidentally Let a Domain Name Expire?

2

Every day, I either bid on expired domain names or I observe expired domain name auctions. These names went to auction because someone either didn’t want to renew their domain name, forgot to renew their domain name, didn’t receive their renewal notice with no credit card on file, or some other scenario that left the domain name unrenewed. The main beneficiary of expired domain name auctions is the registrar, auction platform, and I suppose the winning bidder.

I like to think I keep pretty good track of my domain names and don’t let the good ones expire. I do this by keeping my contact information update, a valid credit card on file, and auto-renew enabled. I can’t recall a time off the top of my head that I accidentally let a domain name expire. I am sure this happens though, and I am curious about how much it happens to domain investors.

Have you ever accidentally let one of your domain names expire? Vote in today’s daily poll. What happened with the domain name after it expired?

Daily Poll: Would / Do You Buy Your Local gTLD Extension?

2

There are quite a few local new gTLD domain name extensions such as .NYC, .Boston, .London, and others. I have never been bullish on the new extensions, but I thought the local extensions might have the best chance of success in local markets.

I think there have been some successes, and it looks like some cities have done fairly well. Registries have also done pretty well I think. Neustar is running its 4th .NYC auction, and MMX has been advertising its .Boston extension locally.

Now that these new gTLD domain names have been on the market for a while, I am curious if you are a buyer. I am sure there will be other city/geo extensions in future application rounds. Would you buy your local extensions? Share your thoughts in the comment section and cast your vote in the poll below:

Daily Poll: How Often Do You Use Domaining.com?

15

One of the best domain investing tools isn’t a tool per se, but it acts like a useful tool. Domaining.com, an aggregator of domain investing related blogs and websites, is the hub of domain name news for many people.

This website receives quite a bit of traffic from Domaining.com. I am also an avid user of Domaining.com. I particularly like the customization and advertising options the website provides. I would be surprised if there is a serious domain investor who doesn’t use Domaining.com at least somewhat regularly.

How often do you use Domaining.com?

Daily Poll: What Will the TokenCoin.com Auction Price Be?

0

A domain name comprised of two of the most popular domain name keywords (from the last couple of years) is currently on auction at NameJet and ending later on today. TokenCoin.com expired and is in a pending delete auction, so I believe the main beneficiaries of the auction will be NameJet and Web.com.

As of the time of writing this, the high bid for TokenCoin.com is $3,710. I backordered the domain name, but I have no intention of bidding on it. In what price range bracket do you think it will sell?

Daily Poll: How Was Q1 2018?

0

As the calendar flipped to April, the books closed on the first quarter of 2018. For me and my businesses, it was a bit of a mixed bag. Because of some outlier deals, the overall numbers are pretty good. I had a slow February in terms of deal volume and March started pretty slow, too.

Last week was by far the busiest of the year for me. I closed a few deals and am still actively negotiating to sell a couple of other domain names to buyers who will use them well. There were no outstanding deals this past week, but it was nice to move some inventory for reasonable prices after a slow few weeks.

All in all, Q1 was good, but it could have been better. How was the first quarter for you?
