I live in the Boston suburbs, and Boston.com is one of my goto websites for local news. When I visited this morning, I saw a GoDaddy advertisement in conjunction with the .Boston domain name registry (MMX) that I want to share with you. I am not entirely sure if the advertisement was placed via third party ad platform or directly with the Boston Globe and Boston.com:
As you can see, the .Boston advertisement consists of a large header banner with two gutter banners. The advertisement touts .Boston domain names and it directs visitors to GoDaddy.Boston. Interestingly, clicking on the banner takes visitors to Hub.Boston rather than GoDaddy.Boston. If you visit GoDaddy.Boston directly, you are taken to a .Boston domain name subpage within the GoDaddy.com website.
With the New England Patriots just losing the Super Bowl and the team’s Offensive Coordinator (Josh McDaniels) just being named the new Head Coach of the Indianapolis Colts, today is going to be busy day on Boston.com. It will be interesting to track the number of domain registrations that result from this effort.
Excellent targeted advertising campaign. It would be smart for them to do this with each and every new gTLD. That is how you promote them properly.
That is huge (sized banner) and good targeting
