What Are the Top 10 Favorite Domain Names You’ve Owned?

There have been quite a few “top 10 domain name” blog articles, Twitter threads, and forum posts going around in the last week or so. Domain investors seem to enjoy promoting (sorry, I mean sharing) their best domain names. I thought I would change things up and ask about the top 10 *favorite* domain names you have ever owned. These don’t have to be the most valuable or the best domain names you currently own or have ever owned, but I want to know your top 10 favorite domain names.

Here are mine:

Web.com Job: Strategic Aftermarket Sales Executive

Web.com posted a job opportunity I want to share with readers. The Jacksonville, Florida-based company is looking to hire a Strategic Aftermarket Sales Executive. Based on the job description, it looks like the hire will work on the company’s SnapNames and NameJet lines of business. The job was posted one week ago on LinkedIn, and it looks like there are fewer than 25 applicants so far.

Here’s the job summary extracted from the LinkedIn job listing:

Have an Escrow Backup Plan

A few weeks ago, I wrote about a change at Escrow.com that has implications for people living in or doing business with entities in Russia, Panama, and even in the US state of Alabama. In short, an American company can no longer use Escrow.com to buy or sell a domain name to a counterparty in Russia, Panama, Alabama, or elsewhere on the exclusion list. Because I use Escrow.com on many of my private sales, this could become problematic for me.

Nominet Reappointed as EBERO Provider

On a number of occasions, readers have asked what happens to a registry’s domain names should the registry go out of business. Domain registrants have a business relationship with a registrar, but the registry actually manages the extension. For instance, Verisign operates the .com registry and Donuts operates the .Ventures registry. ICANN has a back-up plan in place in the event a registry goes out of business or otherwise fails, and there are three registries that are approved by ICANN to step-in if/when necessary.

Nominet reached out to me to share a press release announcing it was re-appointed to serve as one of ICANN’s three EBERO operators. EBERO stands for Emergency Back-End Registry Operators. If a new gTLD registry fails, one of the three EBERO operators will be selected by ICANN to step in an take over the management of the registry.

AVK.com UDRP: Complaint Rejected

A company called AVK Holding A/S filed a UDRP against the valuable 3 letter .com domain name, AVK.com. The UDRP dispute was filed at the Czech Arbitration Court (CAC) and the decision was just published. Because of the venue, I did not notice this LLL.com UDRP filing until I saw it listed on UDRPSearch.com.

The respondent won the UDRP dispute and will keep its domain name, although it seems to have won based on a technicality rather than the merits of the case. Domain industry attorney Zak Muscovitch represented the domain registrant. Here’s an excerpt from the decision discussing why the panel ruled against the complainant:

$450m Company Uses a .Club Domain Name

Techmeme highlighted a TechCrunch article about a company called Cred that just raised a $120 million Series B round of funding. The Indian company had previously raised a considerable amount of funding, reportedly bringing its total funding to date to $145 million. With this latest round of funding, the company “is now valued between $430 million to $450 million,” according to the TechCrunch article.
