LLLLSales.com is a Neat Sale Tracking Tool

I recently acquired two LLLL.com domain names in the aftermarket, likely paying above their current market value to secure them. I reached out to a few trusted sources to seek their opinion on the value, and one of them shared a very cool tool that I want to share with you.

LLLLSales.com tracks four letter .com domain name sales that are closed on public platforms such as Sedo, NameJet, Flippa, GoDaddy, 4.cn and other platforms. The best part of the tool is the robust search functionality, allowing you to look at various attributes of sold domain names. It appears that the website has over 100,000 sales indexed at a value approaching $100 million.

Some of the search functions include:

DNA Shares “Industry Leader” Videos

The Domain Name Association (DNA) recently uploaded 5 videos interviews with commentaries on the state of the industry, specifically the new gTLD domain name space. The five videos were filmed during the ICANN meeting in Buenos Aires this past June (2015).

Simon Cousins, CEO of Allegravita, the company that filmed the interviews, shared that the videos are  “intended to be evergreen commentaries on the state of the industry.” He added that the videos are only about two minutes in length, so you should be able to  watch all five of them in one sitting.

The industry leaders featured in the first five videos are:

Where Are the Domain Registrars of China?

Allegravita created this interesting infographic to illustrate where the domain name registrars of China are located. Click on the infographic to make it full size and easier to read.

Simon Cousins wrote an article about DomainFest Asia, a domain conference taking place in Macau this weekend. Simon shared his thoughts about the conference, the domain name space in China, and the four China Boot Camp sessions his company (Allegravita) is producing for the conference.

I appreciate that Allegravita shared this infographic with me, and I hope you find it interesting.

4 Challenges of Investing in Domains

Domain investing can be a lucrative business, but it is not without its challenges. I thought I would put together a short list of four challenges that many domain investors face.

As always, I invite you to share your thoughts on these four challenges, and I also invite you to add additional challenges you face with respect to investing in domain names.

Two Experts Disagree on Chinese Market Impact

I want to share an interesting (public) Facebook exchange between Sahar Sarid and Andrew Rosener, two experts on the domain investment market. Sahar was commenting on the Chinese stock market drop and its potential impact on domain investments, and Andrew Rosener of Media Options disagreed with his assessment.

Sahar wrote:

“I know some domainers who walked away on fabulous offers from Chinese buyers recently. Those offers are likely gone by now and who knows when and if they’ll be back anytime soon. ‪#‎BlackMonday‬”

“Trump” on Trending Registrations List

I always like reading about the trending domain registration keywords  when Verisign shares its monthly report. This afternoon, Verisign shared the .com and .net keyword trends for July, and there was a pretty big surprise on the list. “Trump” was listed at #5 for .com domain names.

Using Verisign’s Keyword trend tool, it looks like 1,369 domain names with the keyword “trump,” were registered during the month of July.  I am quite sure the reason Trump was in the top 10 list is because of Donald Trump’s Presidential campaign.

Some of the domain names that were registered in July include the following:
