#StartAnArgumentIn4Words: Domain Name Edition

The hashtag #StartAnArgumentIn4Words has been trending on Twitter. GoDaddy’s Joe Styler posted a domain name related tweet with the hashtag:

Here are a few ways I think you could start an argument with a domain investor in 4 words:

Domain Name Changes Can be Costly

I came across an article on Hacker News that discussed a major layoff at a logo and design company called Looka. According to the article, the company laid off 80% of its employees. The layoff followed a corporate rebranding, as the company changed its name from Logojoy to Looka. Interestingly, the Looka.com domain name was acquired via Sedo in September of 2018 for $65,150.

Apparently, the domain name change that went along with the rebrand was the culprit behind a major loss of traffic. Here’s an excerpt from the article found on BetaKit:

Escrow.com: Q3 2019 Domain Investment Index

This morning, Escrow.com released its Domain Investment Index report for the Third Quarter of 2019. Because Escrow.com facilitates a large percentage of private domain name sales, especially those that sell for the highest amounts of money, the company is in an excellent position to offer an overview of the health of the domain name aftermarket and provide a view of what types of domain names are selling and for how much.

Guardian Podcast Discusses Domain Names

The Guardian published a podcast about domain names, and I think it’s worth the 25 minute listen on your way to work or when you have some time. The free podcast is part of the publication’s Chips with Everything series from Jordan Erica Webber.

The basis for the coverage about domain names and domain name values is the upcoming auction of the Democracy.com domain name. In fact, the podcast introduction is an interview with the owner of Democracy.com, discussing what the website was about and why the domain name is coming up for auction.
