Why I Launched Embrace.xyz

If you follow my Twitter account, you may have noticed a retweet of another account I operate:

I launched a website on Embrace.xyz to sell my company’s .XYZ domain names. For those of you who have seen Embrace.com, the logo and website probably look familiar to you. I retained the “embracing E” concept in the logo. I also have a similar tagline – “we embrace .xyz domain names.” In addition, the customized theme is the same for both websites.

Yachts.com Sold via Sedo for a Big Gain

Less than a year ago, Eric Borgos announced that he acquired the Yachts.com domain name for $350,000, and he shared his plans for the business he intended to build on it. Andrew Allemann labeled it a “gutsy move,” and I agree considering the global Covid pandemic limited travel for quite some time.

This morning, Sedo broker Frank Tillmanns announced that Yachts.com was sold via Sedo. Frank mentioned the deal was co-brokered by Andrew Miller:

Reza Sardeha on the Domain Aftermarket

If 2022 ended today, I would be pleased with the results. Thankfully, the year started off very good for my business. I feel particularly fortunate because I’ve had mid-6 figures in sales fall through after price and terms were agreed upon with fully vetted buyers. Had the year not gotten off to a good start, it would have been demoralizing to experience this.

Since the beginning of June, though, I have noticed a bit of a slowdown. With a little more than 1,500 domain names in my portfolio, though, I have never felt that my results are indicative of the overall domain name aftermarket conditions.

Swetha Yenugula has become well-known for her .XYZ domain name sales and portfolio. Every week, it seems like she’s sharing great domain name sales on her Twitter account. A short while ago, Swetha posted something I can relate to – a quiet June:

Millionaires.com Sold for 6 Figures in NameJet Auction

The Millionaires.com domain name was up for auction today on NameJet. The auction had a reserve price between $10,001 – $25,000, and it easily surpassed its reserve price. Millionaires.com sold for $127,222. There were 198 bids placed from 185 bidders.

Was Tile.com Acquired for $1.1 Million?

Towards the end of 2017, I noticed the Tile.com domain name changed hands. The Tile app upgraded to Tile.com, and the domain name continues to forward to the company’s website, TheTileApp.com. The Tile.com domain name had long been owned by Digimedia, and the company has a policy of not reporting sales or commenting about sale prices.

This afternoon, I was looking through some SEC filings, and I may have come across the sale price for the Tile.com domain name. The filing was a SEC Form 10 registration statement from Life360, Inc. Life360 acquired the Tile brand in 2021. The Form 10 filing was made in April of 2022. Notably, a large domain name acquisition was mentioned:

“We Need at Least…”

As a domain name buyer, one of the toughest replies to respond to is when someone tells me “we need at least $X to sell the domain name.” It makes it seem like the domain registrant is seeking $X for the domain name, but that is not the case. If I increase my offer to $X, there is a strong likelihood they will reject the offer and try to get a better offer. This is probably a good move from their end, but it’s annoying to me as a buyer.
