What is XXWW.com Worth?

Aside from owning SSSN.com and PRRR.com, I no longer own many domain names that seem to be in great demand to Chinese domain name buyers. I suppose I don’t fully understand the rationale for these purchases and am concerned that if I jump into that market right now I will end up losing money.

I read Shane Cultra’s list of domain names coming up for auction, and he highlighted one that was intriguing to me. In this morning’s post, Shane said, “XXWW.com OK this is the best name on the board. Maybe not in the future but right now.” I clicked through, and I see XXWW.com is up for auction on Sedo right now. The current high bid is $10,000 and the reserve has been met.

To be totally honest, I

NameJet and Right of the Dot Team up for NamesCon Auction

According to a press release that was published today, NameJet and Right of the Dot are teaming up to run a live auction that will be held during the NamesCon conference in January. The auction will be held on January 11, 2016 at 2:00 PM Pacific (5pm Eastern) at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas. For domain names that do not sell during the live auction, there will be an online auction for 10 days following the event.

There have been quite a few domain names entered into the auction already, and more will be added over the next few weeks. At the time of publication, some of my favorite domain names (not considering the reserve prices) include:

  • Genetics.com
  • Homecoming.com
  • Landlords.com
  • Lawn.com
  • Consignment.com

The press release mentions that auction submissions will be considered until November 20, 2015. Submissions may be made via the Right of the Dot website. As domain names are accepted into the auction, they will be added to the NamesCon auction page on NameJet.

I have published the press release below:

SnapNames & NameJet Team Up for LTD.com Auction

LTD.com NameJet Auction

SnapNames and NameJet are essentially sister companies as well as competing domain name auction platforms. SnapNames is wholly owned by publicly traded Web.com, and NameJet is co-owned by Web.com and publicly traded Rightside. Both companies provide an auction venue for domain names.

I received a press release this afternoon announcing that the two companies are working together to sell LTD.com. The domain name is going to be auctioned on NameJet, and the reserve price is between $25,001 and $50,000. The domain name went on the platform today, and the final day for bidding on LTD.com will be Wednesday, December 2. At the time of publication, there are 34 bidders.

If you visit SnapNames and NameJet, you can see there is an advertising banner on both websites announcing the auction.

Because the domain name is currently registered under Whois privacy, I am not sure who owns this domain name.

October Great Domains Auction Results

Well, it looks like the 71% majority of voters who thought EZ.com would sell in Sedo’s  Great Domains auction were incorrect. I was pretty surprised that so many votes were cast thinking that EZ.com would sell in the auction. In the end, the high bid for EZ.com was $430,000. I presume Dave Evanson from Sedo will be working the phones and email trying to get a post-auction deal done.

In total, the auction grossed somewhere around $150,000 in total sales. The results are mixed with USD and EUR, so I am not sure the exact amount of closed sales. The largest sale of this month’s auction was DCR.com which sold for $42,000. ICT.com was the next highest sale at 38,000 EUR. ArtDirector.com sold for $9,999.

As I mention every month after the Great Domains auction sales report, the auctions ended today and most of these deals are likely not yet closed. Sedo will publicly report the sales as payments are made, so keep that in mind when you have a look at these auction results.

Here are this month’s

Watch Out for Typos!

The other day, I was doing some domain auction research, and I placed a backorder for a domain name I saw had many bids at NameJet. The name looked great, although I was a bit surprised there weren’t more backorders. I figured it may have been a passe term, but I didn’t give it much thought.

When it went into auction, I was on my iPhone. I almost immediately placed a higher bid and was the leading bidder for this domain name. I still didn’t know it was a typo.

A few hours later,

.Club to Run 1 and 2 Character Auctions

6

The .Club registry will be running a series of auction for 1 and 2 character .Club domain names, it was announced this afternoon at THE Domain Conference. Coming up for bid are domain names such as C.Club, HJ.Club, JD.Club, and others – 25 domain names in total.

The registry set up a page on its website to share details of the auctions, which will run from October 29 – November 5th. Judging by the auction venue and non-industry standard auction timing, it appears that the registry is trying to tap into the Chinese domain investment market with this auction.

Here are some of the details about the auction that can be found on the auction page within the registry website:
