I look at most of my GoDaddy Auction buys as a means of adding inventory to my portfolio. What I mean is that I don’t typically acquire gems from GoDaddy Auctions that I plan to keep until I get the right offer. They are names I can generally buy inexpensively – from around $20/each to $2k +/-. I spend more when necessary, but the idea is that I will price the names I buy anywhere from around $1k to the low five figures, depending on the name, and then regularly sell enough of these names to make the effort worthwhile.

A couple of months ago, I wanted to check on the hours of Make Meaning, a once popular and growing children’s shop where I previously took our daughter to make custom candles. Unfortunately, my Google searching revealed that the retail chain had shut all of its locations. The company had used MakeMeaning.com for its corporate website when it was operational.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about a GoDaddy Auctions glitch that occurred when a network connection was lost as the time on an auction ran down. I was able to replicate the error by turning off my Internet connection shortly after placing a bid on an auction. Here’s what I wrote about the glitch:

Andrew Allemann wrote about a GoDaddy Auctions “glitch” that caused a bidder to lose an auction that he thought he had won. I can see how he would be upset because the messaging does indicate that he won the auction despite the fact that he lost the auction.

I received the same email from the person who emailed Andrew, and I spoke with Joe Styler about it yesterday. Paul Nicks provided a comment to Andrew about what caused this situation.
