GoDaddy Auctions: Runner Up “Blocked from Bidding” (Updated)

Finlead posted a couple of concerning tweets regarding his bidding account at GoDaddy Auctions. Unless this is a new and concerning policy at GoDaddy that I was not aware of before, my guess is this is some sort of error:

Lifestyle.com Has 2,000,000 GBP Bid on Sedo (Updated)

Could we see the largest public domain name sale of the year in less than a week? Lifestyle.com has a 2,000,000 GBP bid in a Sedo auction, and it shows that the reserve has been met. At today’s exchange rate, that bid is $2,436,600 USD. The auction was first noted yesterday by Logan Flatt:

Tema.com Sells for $43,805 in Second Auction

Tema.com was sold at DropCatch.com for $128,938 on May 13th. The winning bidder apparently did not pay for the auction, and the domain name was reauctioned on DropCatch.com. The auction concluded this afternoon, and the closing price this time around was $43,805. The difference between the original auction and the second auction was a whopping $85,133. Quite a haircut for the auction house.

Tema.com Being Re-auctioned at DropCatch.com

On May 13th of this year, the DropCatch.com auction for the Tema.com domain name closed at $128,938, as reported by NameBio. According to a tweet I saw this afternoon, Tema.com is being re-auctioned on DropCatch.com:

Dam It! GoDaddy Auction Appraisals Different Than GoValue Tool

I was looking at NamePros this morning when I saw a thread started by Raymond Hackney that discussed changing GoDaddy Appraisals. You should have a look at Raymond’s article and the entire NamePros thread to get some background. Personally, I think automated appraisals should regularly change as comparable sales are indexed. Domain name values are dynamic in nature.

More Expiries Due to Furloughs and Layoffs?

I noticed a high profile domain name hit the expiry stream recently. The domain name is owned by a pretty big company, and if it is not renewed within the next several days, it will be auctioned to the highest bidder. When I saw the domain name in auction, I started to wonder if we will see more high profile domain name expiries due to corporate layoffs and furloughs at companies throughout the world.
