NBCU Announces “LX” – Using LX.com

According to an article published in Variety, NBC Universal is launching a new television service dubbed LX:

Apple Registers 5 .Apple Domain Names

Apple is the operator of the .Apple extension, but to this day, the company has not registered nor done much with .Apple domain names. According to Dofo, there are just 16 .Apple domain names registered, with the 3 most recent registrations being ApplePay.Apple, Wallet.Apple, and AppleCash.Apple. It doesn’t look like any of those domain names resolve, and Wallet.Apple is the only one that really makes sense to me as a marketable domain name.

According to my morning Registrant Monitor alert from DomainTools, it looks like Apple registered 5 new .Apple domain names within the last week. The domain names that Apple created / registered are:

Why Extend Acquired Extend.com

I have pretty much every meaningful one word .com domain name listed in my Domain Monitor tool from DomainTools. When one of these domain names transfers to a different registrar, changes hands, or has some sort of other update, I am frequently able to see this within a day or two. I regularly notice great brand match .com domain names that were acquired by the most obvious end user buyer.

I recently noticed that Extend.com was acquired by a company called Extend. Obviously, a company called Extend is better off owning Extend.com, and having this brand match domain name should pay dividends for this company for years to come.

Element AI Does It Better

Yesterday, I published an article about a company called Healthy.io. I praised the company for incorporating its .IO domain name within its branding, making it less likely that people will make a mistake when navigating to the startup’s website or sending email to employees. I found an even better example of a company’s wise usage of its ccTLD domain name.

This morning, several tech publications covered the news of a major funding round for a company called Element AI:

Healthy.io Does .IO the Smart Way

Last night, VentureBeat published an article about a $60 million round of funding for a company called Healthy.io. The healthtech startup has now reportedly raised around $90 million in funding to date:

As you can see, Healthy.io uses the .IO ccTLD for its website. In my opinion, this company is using its non .com domain name in a very smart way.
