Playboy Files UDRP Against Playboy.Club (Updated)

Playboy, the popular adult entertainment publisher, has filed a UDRP against the Playboy.Club domain name. The UDRP was filed at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and it is case #D2017-1633.

The domain name has a creation date of February of 2017, and it is owned by a registrant in China. At the present time, the domain name does not appear to be used for a website. It looks like Playboy.Club had been previously registered in December of 2014 by a registrant in Cambodia. The domain name expired and deleted, and then it was re-registered in February of this year.

This UDRP decision could be interesting because the term "playboy" is also considered a generic term. Every standard dictionary seems to have a definition for "playboy" aside from the Playboy brand, founded by Hugh Hefner. Dictionary.com, for instance, defines the playboy term as (more…) → Read More

.Club Hits 1 Million Registrations

The .Club registry has hit a milestone - 1 million .Club domain name registrations. According to .Club registry CEO Colin Campbell, the milestone was reached at 3:15 this morning:

According to nTLDStats.com, there are just 5 new gTLD extensions that have one million or more registered domain names: .XYZ, .Top, .Loan, .Win and now .Club.

As I wrote a couple of days ago, the .Club registry released approximately 4,500 previously reserved domain names. These domain names became available to register yesterday, and I presume this helped the registry surpass the million domain name mark. → Read More

.Club Releasing 4,500 Domain Names

In a blog post published this morning, the .Club registry announced that it will be releasing 4,500 domain names tomorrow. These domain names were previously reserved by the registry, and as such, they were only available to purchase by working out a deal directly with the registry.

The domain names that are being released include one and two word phrases as well as some shorter two and three character domain names. The full list of 4,500 domain names can be downloaded via the .Club blog post. Some examples cited are University.Club, Varsity.Club, and Gardening.Club.

Domain names that are being released "have suggested retail prices from $100 to $10,000." The blog post mentioned that many domain name registrars sell these domain names for less than the suggested price, so you'll need to check with individual registrars to see what is available and for how much at the time the domain names are released. According to the blog post, (more…) → Read More

Dot ClubDuring NamesCon, the .Club registry announced its new  Broker Program and interest-free financing plans to help sell .Club domain names. Konstantinos of OnlineDomain.com wrote about this news in an article published a week ago.

In a press release announcing this news, here's what the registry had to say:

"As we enter a new year, .CLUB continues to innovate new ways to make our brandable premium names accessible to entrepreneurs and small businesses. We were the first to offer financing to select registrants under our Startup Club program, which successfully incubated businesses such as Coffee.club and Soap.club. Now we are expanding the opportunity by offering Registry-backed financing for all premium names sold directly by the Registry and priced at $1,000 or more. With 60-month, interest free financing, that $1,000 name can be had for less than $17/month. For businesses and entrepreneurs, great 5 and 6-figure premium names become much more attainable when payments are spread out over 5 years. You can search for and purchase → Read More

Kevin Fink Interviews Colin Campbell of .Club

I think the .Club registry is one of the most successful new gTLD registries. I want to share an interview NamePros conducted with Colin Campbell, CEO of the .Club registry. The interview took place at NamesCon last year, so it is interesting to watch it one year later. Kevin Fink conducted the interview.

The NamePros team conducted quite a few interviews with other industry executives, and you can catch them on its  YouTube channel. It's neat to witness the growth of NamePros over the last couple of years as it expands beyond a standard forum format and adds videos, interviews, auctions, and other features. I am not an active participant, but I enjoy visiting regularly.
