How to See All Registered Domain Extensions

A friend sent me a text message yesterday asking me how to see what extensions are registered in a particular keyword. I don't know of a tool that specifically does this, but I directed her to the search functionality at 101Domain. I think this could be helpful to others, so I wanted to share it with readers.

My company owns Embrace.com. Let's say I want to see what other extensions in the "Embrace" keyword are registered. I am interested in knowing both ccTLD domain registrations as well as registrations in the new domain name extensions. Here are the easy steps I can take to see this information:

  1. Visit 101Domain.com, enter "embrace" in the search box, and click the search button.

  2. Look at the "Recommended for you" results, which will show the available domain names.

  3. Tick off the "Show Unavailable" box and it will show the registered domain names that are not available to purchase

Here are the top results I see without a scroll when I did the search above: (more…) → Read More

Video: Why is .VIP Popular in China?

I am the first to admit that I don't really understand the Chinese domain name market. I understand why certain domain names have significant value, but I have no idea about the underlying factors that are really contributing to the growth in capital that has been pouring into the domain space.

One example of my lack of knowledge relates to .VIP domain names. Believe it or not, there are now nearly half a million registered .VIP domain names, according to nTLDStats.com. Over 83% of those registered domain names are parked. Also interestingly, I believe the 5 registrars with the greatest volume of .VIP domain name registrations are based in China.

I saw a video shared by 101Domain that offers some insight about why .VIP domain names are so popular, and I embedded it below for those who want to learn more about the extension and its popularity amongst buyers in  China. The video features Joe Alagna of 101Domain, Susan Lawrence of Minds + Machines (operator of .VIP), and Simon Cousins of Allegravita, a specialist in the Chinese → Read More

Video: 101Domain Busting Myths About Not Com Domains

New gTLD registries have undertaken various efforts to educate consumers about "not com" domain names. I think domain registrars have a major role to play in educating their clients about the new domain name extensions, as their clients are the companies and people who are buying domain names.

People have a relationship with their registrar, and I think this makes the registrar's role all the more critical in educating consumers about the new domain name extensions they may have heard about.

I want to share a video that 101Domain just shared on its YouTube channel with a goal of busting what they believe are some common myths about non-.com domain names ("not coms"):

101domain Acquired by Afilias

I want to share some news I received this morning via email. Wolfgang Reile, President and CEO of 101domain, announced that the company has been acquired by Afilias. I imagine the announcement was made to coincide with the ICANN meeting in Dublin, which kicks off very soon. As you likely know, Afilias is a domain name registry (billed as "the world's second largest Internet domain name registry"), and 101domain is a popular domain name registrar.

In the email, Mr. Reile announced that he is stepping down from his role as President and CEO. Anthony Beltran, who served as the company COO and CFO, will be leading 101domain going forward. The email mentioned that not much will be changing at 101domain aside from some of the "corporate, registry and operational details." I presume this means that the 101domain branding will be retained.

The email announcement I received is below: (more…) → Read More
