In 2010, GoDaddy began using X.CO as a url shortener. Several years later in 2017, the company ceased using X.CO as a shortener. URL shorteners were no longer really necessary, and the company opted to stop using the domain name as a public url shortener.
When Twitter announced its decision to rebrand as X in coordination with the X.com domain name previously acquired by Elon Musk, I wondered if GoDaddy would consider selling the X.CO domain name. The company was no longer using it, and perhaps it would be of considerable value to another company – perhaps even Twitter / X:
With Twitter rebranding as X, I wonder if @GoDaddy would sell https://t.co/aWXUi9jmu0, which was used as a URL shortener from 2010 – 2017: https://t.co/nbXkwciCUq

A week ago, in response to my Tweet from July, Francesco commented that X.CO now forwards to an Afternic “for sale” landing page. I reached out to a GoDaddy representative to see if the company had decided to list X.CO for sale. Here’s what I was told:
“GoDaddy still owns X.CO. For a little history on the name, GoDaddy operated a link shortener/forwarding service on X.CO which was shut down in 2022.
Since X.CO could provide significant value to others, we chose to list it on Afternic so others who could benefit from this great domain name know it’s available.”
The domain name has a $999,999 minimum offer. I was told the asking price is in the 7 figure range.
Won’t touch it….. trademark issues
Why invite unnecessary problems…..
This is listed for sale to anyone, but you know it’s really listed for one person only.
