Don’t Re-Upload Premium Atom.com Names

I’ve had some decent luck selling domain names on Atom.com. I think their new AI review tool is useful for quickly getting domain names listed for sale at its “Premium” listing level. I tried something I would not suggest doing, and I want to share the result of this error so other people don’t make the same mistake.

I think people use Atom to find a brand name for a business or product more than simply buying domain names at a domain registrar. This has led me to add more domain names I think could become brands. Identifying these domain names from my portfolio of ~2,500 domain names isn’t a quick or easy task. The AI review tool at Atom is a good way to identify domain names that might have a better chance of selling.

I had an idea that was bad in retrospect, but I wanted to share what I did since the outcome was not what I expected. Instead of listing a handful of domain names at a time, I uploaded a large swath of domain names that had a relatively low acquisition cost. I thought Atom’s AI review tool might be helpful in identifying domain names that would be a good fit for Premium listings on the platform rather than using my own intuition. If the suggested list price was good enough for me, I could quickly list those domain names. I could then simply delete everything else that became “Standard” listings. As I mentioned, this turned into a bad idea.

In the list I submitted, I accidentally included one domain name that was already listed for sale on Atom. Instead of kicking it out in the first pass, the AI tool seems to have re-reviewed the listing and deemed it unworthy of Premium status. Upon visiting the domain name, it still forwarded to a page within the Atom.com website, but it no longer had its listing page active. Whoops.

Luckily for me, there was only one domain name on this submission that was already on Atom so it did not become a bigger problem this time. After deleting the listing, I changed the nameservers and called it a day. No harm, no foul as they say. Still, it could have become messy, and I think there should be some guardrails added to allow people to have larger lists scanned without risking de-activation of active listings.

If I was to guess, I think this is probably a bug. Atom probably didn’t account for someone uploading a domain name for review they already had listed on the platform. I shouldn’t have assumed the domain name would simply be kicked out of the review process because it was an active listing.

Whether this is a bug or a feature is neither here nor there. At least for the time being, Atom users should be mindful of not uploading domain names they already have listed on the platform or they may be downgraded upon a subsequent review.

  1. For atom approved Domains , when i Put them in Afternic i keep them in Small case letters no First word capitals in the SLD . this way it’s clear to me that its a Atom Premium domain when i see my Afternic account . also i change the lander to BIN for Atom approved names at Afternic . .

This makes it easy when re-pricing Domains at Afternic , so i can easily Visually eliminate the Atom P. domains
