NameFind’s LAZ.org Subject of URS Filing (Updated)

6

A UDRP URS has been filed against the three letter Laz.org domain name at the National Arbitration Forum (NAF). The UDRP URS was filed last week, and it is case #1887839. Because the UDRP URS was filed at the NAF, the complainant in this UDRP URS will not become publicly known until the decision is published.

LAZ.org was created nearly 20 years ago, in April of 2001. According to current Whois records, the domain name is owned by NameFind, the domain name portfolio company owned and operated by GoDaddy. At the present time,

YouPorn Goes After YouPorn.com Typo Domain Names (Updated)

Licensing IP International S.A.R.L., the parent company of You Porn, filed several UDRPs at the National Arbitration Forum. YouPorn is a popular adult video website and one of the 500 most visited websites in the world, according to Alexa. One of the UDRP filings is for multiple domain names and it looks like the others are each for a single domain name.

While I think almost all of the domain names are obvious typos, at least one seems like it could be winnable for the registrant. The domain names that are included in the UDRP filings include:

Don’t “Ask a Lawyer” on a Domain Forum

The legal section of a domain forum is a popular place for people to ask domain name related questions pertaining to trademarks, UDRP, legal threats, and other legal-related topics. I don’t think it’s wise to post specific legal questions in a public domain name forum, but plenty of people value getting some / any feedback over the potential that it could harm their case or lead them astray.

As I’ve written in the past, it is wise to get the advice of a domain name attorney who has experience and expertise in Intellectual Property Law, specifically related to domain names. There are quite a few exceptional attorneys who have many years of experience helping domain investors with many different legal issues.

Facebook Files Lawsuit Against Namecheap (Updated)

According to a blog post on Facebook’s corporate blog, the social network company filed a lawsuit against Namecheap. The suit was filed because there were domain names registered at Namecheap under Whois privacy proxy that allegedly infringed on Facebook’s trademarks. The blog post was written by Christen Dubois, Director and Associate General Counsel, IP Litigation at Facebook.

Here’s an excerpt from the blog post outlining the lawsuit:

Town of Secaucus Files UDRP Against SecaucusNJ.org (Updated)

Secaucus, New Jersey is a relatively small town that is close in proximity to New York City. While looking at UDRPSearch.com this afternoon, I noticed the Town of Secaucus filed a UDRP against the SecaucusNJ.org domain name at the World Intellectual Property Organization. It is WIPO Case D2020-0509.

From the looks of it, this does not appear to be a typical UDRP filing. In looking through Screenshots.com, it appears that this was a developed website, and I believe it was operated by the town of Secaucus. A Google search also shows the town operates the matching .gov domain name for its website – SecaucusNJ.gov. It is unclear whether the town operated two distinct websites, and if so, for how long.

InvestEase.com UDRP – I Think Panelist Got it Right

I try to monitor UDRP filings involving domain names that appear to be generic terms. The Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) filed a UDRP against the InvestEase.com domain name, and the UDRP caught my eye because the “invest ease” term seems pretty generic to my eyes. Cherise Valles, the sole panelist on this WIPO UDRP (Case No. D2019-2803) ruled in favor of the complainant, and I think this was the right decision.
