ICA Opens Nominations for 2024 Lonnie Borck Memorial Award

Shortly after the untimely and unexpected passing of Lonnie Borck in 2016, the Internet Commerce Association (ICA) named an award in his memory with the approval and participation of Lonnie’s family. Each year since, the ICA has continued to honor Lonnie’s memory with the Lonnie Borck Memorial Award.

The Lonnie Borck Memorial Award honors someone from the domain name business who deserves recognition for making an “exceptional contribution to fostering a sense of community within the domain name industry.” Anyone from within the domain industry can nominate another domain industry participant who they believe is deserving of the award.

Sage.ai Dispute Gives Guidance on Common One Word Domains

Sage Global Services Limited is a well-known British company that is commonly known as Sage and operates on Sage.com. The company recently filed a UDRP at the World Intellectual Property Organization against the Sage.ai domain name, which is owned by a domain investor. The decision was published on Friday, and it was brought to my attention by the Internet Commerce Association.

The three member WIPO panel – John Swinson, W. Scott Blackmer, and Tony Willoughby – ruled in favor of the domain registrant. The panel declined to rule that this was Reverse Domain Name Hijacking, but that has little bearing on the outcome since the registrant will retain the domain name.

The Code of Conduct covers topics like working with a client’s best interests in mind, using a brokerage agreement that lists all terms and fees, disclosing any conflicts of interests, and quite a few other expectations and best practices that professional domain brokers should maintain.
