Nima Nojoumi Named a Top Entrepreneur by Arizona Republic

The Arizona Republic recent published the 2014 edition of Arizona’s top 35 entrepreneurs 35 and younger, and someone who got his start in the domain space was named to the prestigious list. Nima Nojoumi was once a popular Executive Account Manager at GoDaddy, and he left the company in January of 2013. This was the first year Nima was named as one of the top entrepreneurs 35 years old and younger in Arizona.

Nima has been very active in the Arizona startup space, and he is the Co-Founder & CEO of a company called Sourcely, which is billed as a “simple and scalable recommerce platform and reverse logistics as a service.” Essentially, the company allows people to trade their unwanted electronics for cash.

In addition to being given this honor, Nima also

Reported GoDaddy Account Phishing Email: “Status Alert: Code”

8

A few months ago, I reported what seems to be a Register.com account phishing email. This morning, Bill Sweetman from Name Ninja reported a similar type of phishing email. The difference with this reported email is that it is targeting GoDaddy account customers. I presume there may be similar emails targeting customers of other domain registrars, so if you see something similar, it is most likely an illegitimate phishing email.

With domain registrar account phishing emails, the sender tries to get people to click a link to a website they control that asks for account information (or may possibly download malware) from a domain name registrant. Once a hacker has the account holder’s login credentials, they may be able to make changes to the account or even hijack / steal domain names from the account. Oftentimes, they are able to do this without the domain owner even knowing, making it even more problematic.

To reduce the chance of this happening to you, I recommend adding the highest level of security at your accounts. This includes two factor authentication and additional account or domain name locks to prevent unauthorized transfers. In addition, you want to use different passwords (and logins) at different registrars, and you should not click on links within marketing or other emails from registrars unless you are certain the email is legitimate.

Uniregistry Domain Names Now at GoDaddy

Uniregistry has been selling its new gTLD domain names since the end of February of this year,  but they have not been selling them via GoDaddy, the largest domain name registrar in the world. According to a tweet from Uniregistry founder Frank Schilling, as of yesterday, new gTLD domain names managed by Uniregistry are now available for purchase by customers at GoDaddy.

I checked, and GoDaddy is now selling Uniregistry extensions like .link, .sexy, .tattoo, .blackfriday, .guitars, and others. The pricing seems comparable to other registrars, although the prices are more expensive than buying the domain names directly from Uniregistry (not taking any discounts into consideration).

In February of this year, Kevin Murphy of DomainIncite.com wrote an article about “why registrars are boycotting .sexy” and other Uniregistry new gTLD domain names. In his article,

Bob & Renee Parsons Discuss Commitment to Philanthropy

5

GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons and his wife Renee Parsons are known to be philanthropic, and I want to share the CBS 5 video below. In the video, Renee Parsons discusses the family’s commitment to philanthropy by helping a variety of non-profit organizations.  The focus of the video is local organizations in Arizona, and the accompanying article also discusses the Parsons’ commitment to philanthropy in general.

Mr. Parsons was recently named to the 2014 Forbes 400 list with a net worth estimated by Forbes at $1.9 billion. The first two members of the Forbes 400 list are Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, two noted philanthropists who started The Giving Pledge to encourage others to greatly participate in philanthropic causes by the tune of 50% of their net worth. In December of 2013, it was announced that Bob and Renee Parsons joined  The Giving Pledge.

GoDaddy to Open Global Technology Center

GoDaddy is gearing up for the grand opening of the GoDaddy Global Technology Center in Tempe, Arizona. The grand opening celebration will take place tomorrow, and there will be tours of the facility as well as an “unorthodox ribbon cutting” ceremony.

The Center is billed as a collaborative work environment, and it will be home to 1,100 employees (engineers, developers, corporate staff, and consultants). Over the past year, the company hired 200 employees to work in its  Tempe location, and I am told the company intends to hire an additional 250 employees to work in the new building in the next year or so.

Here is how the company describes the Technology Center:

“The specially-designed workplace is a two-story, 150,000 sq. ft. facility featuring employee-amenities like: a fitness area, yoga room, game center, indoor climbing wall and go kart track, plus outdoor basketball and sand volleyball courts, as well as a soccer field, eco-friendly features and a giant slide from the second-floor office area into a full-service kitchen with on-site chefs.”

Bob Parsons #343 on 2014 Forbes 400 List

4

The 2014 Forbes 400 list was revealed a week ago, and GoDaddy founder Bob Parsons is once again listed amongst the wealthiest individuals in the United States. In this year’s list, Mr. Parsons ranks #343, with an estimated net worth of $1.9 billion. Most of his wealth was earned as a result of the success of GoDaddy, which recently filed paperwork to become a publicly traded company.

This is not Mr. Parson’s first time being on the Forbes 400 list. In 2013, Mr. Parsons also made an appearance on the Forbes 400 list, ranking #296. His estimated net worth was also $1.9 billion last year, so despite his estimated net worth  not changing year over year, his ranking went down 47 spots.

Parsons’ first year on the Forbes 400 list was in
