Over the weekend, I noticed a registrant change in my DomainTools Whois Monitor alert email related to Texas.com. The domain name, which had been registered under Whois privacy proxy since 2015, is now registered to Brent Oxley. Brent founded and sold HostGator, and he now owns a portfolio of exceptional domain names as investments. Brent also lives in the state of Texas.

According to a tweet from Sedo broker Frank Tillmanns, the Viajes.ES ccTLD domain name was sold via Sedo for €147,000. At today’s exchange rate, that is approximately $164,717 USD. As Frank mentioned in his tweet, viajes means “travel” in English.

Yesterday afternoon, Sedo reported the €700,000 sale of Links.com. At today’s exchange rate, the sale is just shy of $800,000 USD (approximately $796,610), making it one of the largest public domain name sales of the year to date. It also appears to be the largest sale of the year for Sedo, not including any unreported private sales.

The tweet promoting the sale stated that this was the “most expensive fixed price domain sale yet!” I presume this means the buyer used the buy it now option from Sedo’s marketplace and it was the largest sale in this manner to have transacted via Sedo rather than a brokered domain name sale:

Impact Voice.com Sale Will Have on My Business

By now, you have read about the $30 million cash sale of Voice.com. From what I have been reading, it is the largest domain name sale of all time when considering the domain name was acquired on its own, without any website, business, or other goodwill. It is a monster deal, but the impact on my business will be relatively minimal.

The sale of Voice.com is record breaking and inspiring. My company has quite a few one word .com domain names, but I am not racing to reprice them. Voice.com shows that it is possible to get a massive deal on one domain name, but it does not mean that all domain names are more valuable as a result of the sale.
