ICANN Publishes Beginner’s Guide To ICANN Meetings

The ICANN 51 meeting in Los Angeles, California will be taking place October 12-16, 2014. The conference event will be held at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in LA. I’ve spoken with quite a few people in the domain space, and it seems like the event will see quite a considerable attendance from people and companies in the domain investment space.

I am on the fence right now due to extensive travel plans (including TRAFFIC in Miami), but if I decide to attend, it will be my first ICANN meeting. I have no idea what an ICANN meeting is like, and ICANN has created a guide to help people learn about the meetings and know what to expect. The “Beginner’s Guide To ICANN Meetings” requires users to sign up to review, but it’s free to use. If I decide to attend, I’ll probably have a look. You might want to check it out if you’re planning to attend.

Are you planning to attend the ICANN meeting in LA? Is it worth traveling across the country to attend? Please vote in the poll below and/or comment about whether you’ll be in attendance.

NamesCon 2015: More Time, More People, More Opportunities

NamesCon 2015

About this time last year, NamesCon 2014 was a napkin idea. In 90 days we put together a conference with 7 keynote speakers, 25 panels and over 100 panelists that won accolades from every corner of the internet naming space. Hearing that people did more business in their first day of NamesCon than during entire conferences elsewhere was not unusual. And the generosity of attendees came shining through at the record-breaking WaterNight to benefit WaterSchool’s clean water projects.

NamesCon was founded on the idea that a rising tide raises all boats.  We will all win by having everyone involved with internet naming in the same venue at the same time annually. When you think NamesCon, you know: “Vegas, January, Must Go.”

NamesCon 2015 will be held January 11 – 15, 2015 at the

DOMAINX Domain Conference Was a Success

DOMAINX Recap

DOMAINX was a success from day one going by the registration data, more so when 400+ people turned up on 7th September by 9.00 am and 90% of them stayed back till the end of the conference at 6.00 pm.

More surprising that 80% of those interviewed after the conference were converted after the conference and saw this as a legitimate industry and as an option to invest and make money. The perception been changed having seen and heard the workings of the industry, first hand.

People started coming in by 9.00 am and an hour later it was full house which was a surprise, it being a Sunday and also in the middle of a huge Indian religious festival, Ganesh Utsav.

Vinit Goenka (National Co-Convener, BJP IT Cell. India Head for verticals E-Governance, ICT Industry Interface & Policy Issues) inaugurated the conference with the lamp lighting ceremony and shared the Government’s vision towards the Information Technology Industry.

This was followed by the

DOMAINX Domain Conference in One Week

After visiting a few international Domain Conferences like TRAFFIC, NamesCon etc, I am pretty excited to participate in what will be the largest Indian Domain Conference. There is a lot of pent up demand in the Indian Domain space for quality knowledge, know-how and networking with fellow domainers. An average domainer who has just started exploring the domain industry or someone who has been domaining for a short time might find it difficult and prohibitively expensive to attend an international conference like TRAFFIC or NamesCon. For such domainers DOMAINXâ„¢ would be the ideal platform to meet fellow domainers to network and do business with and exchange tips and tricks..

Hyderabad has always been a hotbed for Indian Domainers and there wouldn’t have been a better location to host the largest conference of this size and scale. I will be speaking at one of the panels at the start of the conference and also moderate the last panel discussion. I look forward to meet Michael Castello, James Wester, Jason Schaeffer and the other speakers, in person

10 Places I’d Like to See a Domain Conference

One of the best draws to attending an ICANN meeting is that they are held all over the globe to give everyone an opportunity to attend a meeting regardless of where they reside. In my opinion, as someone who has not yet been to an ICANN meeting, I think one major draw is being able to travel somewhere unique  for a business conference.

Domain name conferences have also been held in cities across the world, although they have been held in fewer locales than ICANN meetings. Domain name conferences have been held in New York City, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Vancouver,  Queensland, Amsterdam, Seville, Nassau, New Orleans, and several other places. Conferences like TRAFFIC have not been afraid to try new venues, and I think that is great because it allows more people to attend.

World Domain Day Gets Local Press Coverage

I was unable to attend World Domain Day, held in Hyderabad, India over the weekend, but from what I have been  hearing, the event should be considered  a success. Prior to the event taking place, I was informed that organizers had sold over 300 tickets, and more people were expected to attend. There were many sponsors and quite a few speakers with a variety of domain industry expertise.

This morning, I saw that World Domain Day received quite a bit of local press coverage, which is outstanding. Mike Mann shared one of the articles that mentioned him (despite a typo on his name), and I found a few other articles online. I want to share all of the press coverage I could find, although I suspect there may be additional articles I did not find this morning:
