Creative Urinal Marketing From NamesCon

10

urinal soccer

The Domainers Choice Awards were held last weekend in Dana Point, California, and I wasn't able to make it because of a wedding in New York. I was checking out some of the event photos, and I want to share a photo that Bill Hartzer posted on Flickr.

As you can see, NamesCon had a creative marketing tactic in the men's restroom. Because of the World Cup that is taking place in Brazil, NamesCon outfitted the urinals with a mini soccer ball and goal,  and I suppose the objective of the urinal soccer game is pretty obvious. The "grass" was branded with the NamesCon logo.

I don't know if they did something similar in the ladies room, but I did not see any photos of the ladies room in Bill's photo stream.

I think this is a great attention grabber, and it's also nice to see NamesCon sponsor a domain industry event. → Read More

Do You Want to Attend NamesCon Next Year?

25

There are two groups of people in the domain industry - those who attended NamesCon this past week in Las Vegas, and those who did not attend for whatever reason.

Obviously those who attended the conference have formed their opinions about the value of attending because they experienced it first hand. Those who weren't able to attend have to rely on a variety of industry reports from the conference, including one that I shared. Other reports I recommend reading including Ron Jackson's analysis, Morgan Linton's article, Donna Mahony's recap, and Theo's post. I assume Mike Berkens (more…) → Read More

I Went to NamesCon!! And Loved it!

6

First I would like to thank those of you who read the first part of this article and approached me at NamesCon. It's nice to know that in some little way I helped some enjoy the experience! I met you, I remember you (maybe not by name but you made an impression), I spent at least a little time with you. And I learned some important things about each of you! You read the blogs (shows interest in the industry), you remembered my advice to politely approach people and get to know them! So you study the industry, read advice and execute what matters to you individually..I bet you had a lot of fun. I know I did! Some of us even are on the http://pixt.com/namescon wall together!

To touch a little on a point I made in the first post. I mentioned that you should not approach people with your portfolio in hand..get to know people. It was great..I didn't meet one portfolio pusher...there were at least a couple of card shovers. Flying through the room doing (more…) → Read More

NamesCon is a Big Success

8

In my opinion, the best part about attending a domain conference is having the opportunity to get together with friends and colleagues, and to meet with companies I do business with or want to get to know. With nearly 600 attendees, the inaugural NamesCon conference was packed, and I think it was a big success.

It's pretty clear that the new gTLDs were a main focus at NamesCon. There were many new faces (to me) in the crowd, and it seemed that many were there specifically to discuss or learn about the new gTLDs. The three track agenda enabled attendees to pick and choose topics of interest to them. I found the topics to be interesting and fairly specific, which was important since there were so many panel sessions. I did not get the feeling that the new TLDs were being "shoved down our throats," and that was appreciated.

The only keynote speech I (more…) → Read More

Are You At NamesCon?

5

In late November, I posted a poll asking visitors if they had plans to attend NamesCon. At that point, I was on the fence about going due to other travels, but I made the trip and am glad to be here. 52% of responders said they were not going and 18% said they were undecided.

I understand there are now close to 600 attendees, which is probably one of the three most well attended domain name specific conferences. Kudos to Richard Lau, Jodi Chamberlain, and Jothan Frakes on organizing such a well attended event in less than three months!

I am curious to know if you decided to attend NamesCon. I assume this will be skewed a bit since many attendees probably won't be reading domain blogs this evening or the morning, but it will be interesting to see how the percentages changed since the first time I asked.

If you're here, say hello. Like many others (it seems), I am battling a cold right now, so don't take offense to my non-handshake greetings. → Read More

I’m Going to NamesCon!! Now What!

20

Well, I made the commitment. I bought my ticket and booked my flight. Then a little bit of panic set in.

Is this your first conference? If it is and you're a little intimidated by the whole thing, this post is for you because I am too! I haven't attended a conference since 2008 and I only attended that one because I had a purpose so I'm basically a conference newbie too!

Many of you know I have a small private forum,   (more…) → Read More
