WaterNight is arguably one of the most popular events held during NamesCon. WaterNight raises funds for the WaterSchool, an organization that provides sustainable clean water solutions in Africa. The Water School is supported by many people within the domain industry, and NamesCon founder Richard Lau is the Executive Director while Gregg McNair is on the Board of Directors.
During last year’s WaterNight event at NamesCon, $90,000 in funds were raised for The WaterSchool. Since its inception, this fundraising event has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for the WaterSchool, and it has brought additional publicity to the organization within the domain industry and beyond.
This year’s WaterNight is going to be different than prior years. The change was made based on feedback from attendees. Richard Lau emailed me to give me a bit of a preview and let me know the format:
“We are changing things up a bit and making WaterNight a more elegant and exclusive event. It will be a dinner setting with a classic Las Vegas lounge band, and a celebrity comedian. We will have a silent auction section, and the dinner will be enjoyed in a sit-down setting. Entry will only be for guests with reserved seating – and most tables are an intimate setting of 7 people.”
The NamesCon agenda has additional information about WaterNight:
“This year, join us for a red carpet evening of fine dining, silent auctions with fabulous prizes, live music and a celebrity magician! Help us continue the WaterNight tradition of giving back in a whole new way.”
Richard let me know that the theme is “Las Vegas Glam,” and formal black tie is not required.
A table for 7 guests at WaterNight costs $1,500 and it includes a bottle of champagne. Sponsorship opportunities are also available for businesses and people to support the organization. There are only going to be 200 seats for this special fundraising event. Organizers have set a fundraising goal of $100,000.
WaterNight will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018 from 6:30-10:30pm at the Havana Room in the Tropicana Hotel. To purchase tickets to WaterNight, visit the WaterNight website.
“No more sneaking in with a $5 to $10 donation at the door to get the wristband and getting 2 to 4 free drinks folks!” – There were several that did that last year at water night. Sounds like it’s now a High dollar donation or no entry event. 😉
Only about 60 tickets remain, according to Richard Lau.
