John Berryhill to Receive 2019 Lonnie Borck Memorial Award

The Internet Commerce Association (ICA) has announced that the winner of the 2019 Lonnie Borck Memorial Award is industry attorney John Berryhill. John is regarded as one of the absolute best domain industry attorneys, and I think he is deserving of the award. In fact, I am quite sure I was not alone when I nominated John to receive this award.

For many years, John has represented and advised domain name owners in UDRPs, litigation, legal disputes, and other matters involving domain names. John’s insight and intelligence is almost always accompanied by his humor and wit (except at 3:45am on day 2 of the Pan-Mass Challenge). In addition to the exemplary legal work he does on behalf of his clients, John has regularly shared his legal advice on domain forums, often to people who might otherwise not be able to afford his legal expertise.

Here’s what the ICA shared about John and the award:

“We are thrilled to announce that this year’s recipient of the Lonnie Borck Memorial Award is John Berryhill! John has been at the forefront of the fight for domain owner rights for over 20 years and has taken on many cases pro bono. He has devoted considerable time and effort to educating the domain community about their legal rights, often by actively engaging on the forums and we are honored to present him with this year’s award. Please join us for the award ceremony on Monday at 3:30 PM.”

The Lonnie Borck Memorial Award was created to recognize an individual or organization for extraordinary efforts in championing the rights of domain name owners. The award was created in memory of domain investor Lonnie Borck, who unexpectedly passed away in 2016 at the age of 47. Past winners of the award include David Weslow (2017) and Kathy Kleiman (2018).

John will receive this award during the upcoming NamesCon conference. The award presentation will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 3:30 PM in the Afilias Lounge.

I can not think of someone else who is as deserving of this award as John.
