  1. I don’t think weights are the ideal internet product. When you buy online you have to ship it. Shipping weights is… well expensive. You can probably buy them cheaper in stores that ship in bulk.

  2. These guys need to do a better job marketing these names. I didn’t even realize they had this auction going. Some sleepers in there for sure.

  3. It funny how they don’t use the daily domain blogs to promote their auctions. Of course I am biased but we can’t always promote their products merely for exchange of sales results. They have a duty to their sellers to do more than hope people come to the site on their own and check out what’s for sale. Elliot has always been very nice to Sedo and let everyone know about their auctions but Elliot can’t do it all himself. Taking out a few percent of their commission for promotion seems to make sense to me as it would most likely pay back with higher prices. But what do I know 🙂

  4. Why would anyone want to auction their premium domains to a group of domainers, with no advertising to the outside end user market?

  5. I used to work for sedo but for the benelux market. when we ran a benelux auction .nl .be and .lu domains we definately went to endusers to market the auction the owners of the domains did the same thing though I think if you own a domain it is also part of your responsiblity to market it even when it is in an auction.

  6. I was the buyer of Weights.com. Although selling weights online is not a great business, there are hundreds of weight companies that would probably love to have this domain to give them clout and prestige in the industry. But, mainly I bought it because it is a great name for a bodybuilding site, and lots of bodybuilding companies should be interested in it,

My goal is to eventually resell the domain, but for now I will put up an article type site with articles about bodybuilding and weights. This category has high paying keyword ads in AdSense.

I do not lift weights myself, but I bought the domain because at $32,000 there seems like little downside risk. I think I can always get what I paid for it.

  7. Good Luck Eric, i certainly think it was a good buy and you will easily get your money back for that one. Even flipping probable will end up making you double that just need to reach out to endusers.
