Twice Sold for $22k, Undergraduate.com in “On Hold” Status

At the top of NameJet’s “The Drop” list of domain names that are pending delete is the Undergraduate.com domain name. It has been registered at Uniregistry, and it is currently in “On Hold” status until it deletes, at which point drop catching services will compete to grab it and re-register the domain name.

Undergraduate.com is quite valuable, and the domain name has been sold publicly at least twice before. NameBio shows two public sales records:

  • $22,000 via Sedo in May of 2011
  • $22,301 via NameJet in March of 2014

Once the domain name drops and is caught by a third party, the domain name creation date will reflect its 2018 registration.

Uniregistry Introduces Pay to Inquire Domain Buy Service

I noticed something interesting on a Uniregistry landing page today that I had not noticed before. I was checking out Cool.com, a domain name owned by Future Media Architects that is listed for sale via Uniregistry Market. Instead of a standard inquiry form I am accustomed to seeing on Uniregistry Market-listed domain names, there is a pay to inquire form:

In order to submit an offer to buy Cool.com, the prospective buyer must pay $39 in addition to a commission. I do not recall seeing Uniregistry with this pay to inquire offering before.

Uniregistry to Launch “Greatest Product” on November 27

Uniregistry is gearing up to launch the “greatest product” the company has ever built, according to a tweet from Uniregistry Founder and CEO Frank Schilling:

The company is set to launch this product on November 27, which is about three weeks away. Frank did not offer any clues about what the product is or who will benefit from the product.

It’s interesting to see Frank make such a big statement about a launch. I thought the Uniregistry market and its Domain Name Sales platform was pretty helpful. I have been using it less because I manage my own leads now, but when I was using it I thought it was quite good.

If you have any guesses about what type of product will be launching or the market it will serve, be my guest. My two (obvious) guesses would be that the product is either related to selling domain names or something to do with the new gTLD domain names.

We shall see in a few weeks.

More Links on Uniregistry Landing Pages (Updated)

I noticed something interesting on a parked Uniregistry landing page that I want to share with readers. From what I can tell, it looks like there are many more pay per click (PPC) links on parked Uniregistry pages than there have been in the past. I visited several of my parked domain names to see if this was isolated or widespread, and almost all of them showed the extended PPC link pages.

I want to share two Uniregistry job openings I learned about that might be of interest to someone with domain industry experience. Domain industry experience is not a requirement for either job opening, but it is listed as a “nice to have.”

Hip Hop Museum Promoting its Museum.HipHop Domain Name

The Bronx, New York based Universal Hip Hop Museum announced a new domain name that it is promoting on social media: Museum.HipHop.

If you visit Museum.HipHop, you will be taken to its website on the long standing UHHM.org domain name. If you visit the Museum’s social media pages, you can see the Museum is promoting the Museum.HipHop domain name. From my perspective, Museum.HipHop is more marketable than UHHM.org.

The .HipHop extension is operated by Uniregistry. I asked Uniregistry founder Frank Schilling if his company reached out to the Museum to encourage them to use the .HipHop domain name, and he told me they did not. “Uniregistry had nothing to do with this rebranding,” Frank told me. “This is a perfect example of the passage of time and serendipitous discovery proving new TLD’s to be vibrant, valuable, and relevant. In 20 years .com will still be the New York of extensions, but New York is going to have some company. You just can’t fight the tide, nature, and what feels right,” he said.

There are a little less than 1,400 registered .HipHop domain names, according to nTLDStats.com. It is obviously a very niche domain name extension, and it looks like the perfect tenant found the extension.
