In total, the auction closed at a little under $250,000 USD. I noticed a couple of other domain names that had decent bids, but they did not meet the auction reserve price.

.Club Auction Ad in Wall Street Journal

Dot Club smallThere is an advertisement in for the .Club winter sports domain name auction in the Wall Street Journal today, and I want to share it with you. The .Club auction began today, and it will run through February 26, 2014. The auction includes 25 winter sports-related domain names in the .Club new gTLD extension. Some of the domain names include Snowboarding.club, Skiing.club, IceHockey.club, Skate.club, and others.

The last time I heard about a domain name related advertisement in a major newspaper like the WSJ was when Heritage Auctions ran one for its inaugural live domain auction in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal in November of last year.

I am not sure whether

Sedo shared an illustrative infographic with the details from its 2013 Domain Market Study. For your convenience, I have shared the infographic with you below, but you can visit Sedo’s website to see the infographic in its original (larger) size.

While the report is limited to sales and date from Sedo’s marketplace, I think it is a good barometer for the domain industry in general because of Sedo’s reach and the amount of business the company does annually.

Here is some data from the study, highlighted by Sedo:

Dave Evanson Brokering Sex.Club

This isn’t really domain investing “news” per se, but I saw the embedded tweet above from Sedo domain broker Dave Evanson, and I thought sharing it would be punny.

Yesterday, Sedo announced a .Club auction featuring 25 winter sports .Club domain names. It seems that Sedo is brokering more than just the 25 winter sports .Club domain names. Dave Evanson is currently brokering the Sex.Club new gTLD domain name.

When it comes to Dave Evanson, the .Club domain registry is certainly getting someone who is becoming well versed in the field. Despite a late start (Dave started out in 2010), over the last few years, Dave has made a name for himself as someone who tries very hard. He is especially known for being very quick, and he probably already has a solid list of potential end user buyers and sex club contacts.

The asking price for Sex.Club has not been made public, but if you happen to have an interest, I am sure Dave will be happy to chat with you about it.

PR: Sedo Running Winter Sports .Club Auction

Sedo and the .Club domain registry have announced a special auction of winter sports .Club domain names. In total, there will be 25 winter sports .Club domain names up for auction, including Snowboarding.club, Skiing.club, IceHockey.club, and others.

The full details about this auction are contained in the joint press release below. If you have any questions about the auction, you can either post them here or direct them to Sedo or the .Club registry, which are running the auction jointly.

Sedo Refutes Frank Schilling’s Assertion that DNS is #1

On Monday morning, I had a conversation with Frank Schilling, and he told me that Domain Name Sales recently “became the largest parking/sales company both in traffic and name count.”  Frank let me know that Domain Name Sales now has over 2.5 million domain names on its parking platform, including .com, .net, .org, and ccTLD domain names.

Yesterday afternoon, I had lunch with Sedo broker Dave Evanson, and we briefly spoke about the article I had published the prior day. Dave let me know that he believes Sedo has more than 2.5 million active domain names on its platform, which would make it the largest parking company. I asked if the company could share some details about the total number of names parked with Sedo, and I received additional information from Norman Hamel, Sedo’s Director of Sales and Operations in North America.

According to Norman:
