NamesCon

Are You At NamesCon?

In late November, I posted a poll asking visitors if they had plans to attend NamesCon. At that point, I was on the fence about going due to other travels, but I made the trip and am glad to be here. 52% of responders said they were not going and 18% said they were undecided.

I understand there are now close to 600 attendees, which is probably one of the three most well attended domain name specific conferences. Kudos to Richard Lau, Jodi Chamberlain, and Jothan Frakes on organizing such a well attended event in less than three months!

I am curious to know if you decided to attend NamesCon. I assume this will be skewed a bit since many attendees probably won’t be reading domain blogs this evening or the morning, but it will be interesting to see how the percentages changed since the first time I asked.

If you’re here, say hello. Like many others (it seems), I am battling a cold right now, so don’t take offense to my non-handshake greetings.

I’m Going to NamesCon!! Now What!

Well, I made the commitment. I bought my ticket and booked my flight. Then a little bit of panic set in.

Is this your first conference? If it is and you’re a little intimidated by the whole thing, this post is for you because I am too! I haven’t attended a conference since 2008 and I only attended that one because I had a purpose so I’m basically a conference newbie too!

Many of you know I have a small private forum,

NamesCon Christmas Offer

If you haven’t bought your ticket to the NamesCon conference yet, there’s a good reason to purchase it today. All registration fees paid on Christmas Day will be donated to the Water School. The cost of a ticket to NamesCon is $399 + a $21.92 fee. The price goes up to $599 on January 8.

The inaugural NamesCon domain conference will be held at the Tropicana Hotel January 13-15, 2014. Conference organizers have announced that over 300 people are confirmed to attend, and they’ve targeted an audience of 400 participants.

If you are planning to attend NamesCon and

Aftermarket.com Would Like to Meet at NamesCon

One of the best ways a company can improve its offerings is to meet with clients and potential clients. The domain investment space is unique in that the number of people who are active is relatively small, and it’s a fairly tight knit community compared to other types of asset classes.

When it comes to domain name marketplaces, there are two companies that are ahead of the pack in terms of sales and listings – Afternic and Sedo. Aftermarket.com is most likely the third largest private domain resale marketplace in terms of domain name listings (an unverified assumption).

I received an email last night from Aftermarket.com that I want to share with you. I think it’s a great idea for them to reach out to clients in this manner, and I wish other companies did the same. I receive these types of emails from other companies, but I think

Why I Am Going to NamesCon

I’ve been unsure about whether or not I would be able to make it to NamesCon. My wife and I have quite a bit of travel planned, and I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to get away to Las Vegas in January.

After meeting up with Braden Pollock and Steve Kaziyev (and their significant others) in New York City last month, my wife was convinced that I should go, and she convinced me that she would be fine at home with our toddler (now 20 months old) and our dog. Because of the travel we have planned, she can’t get away from work this time to go to Las Vegas, but she’ll be with me in June for Traffic. I don’t love traveling without her, but she knows

Braden Pollock to Moderate NamesCon Panels

NamesConI want to pass along some NamesCon news to you this morning. Braden Pollock will be the moderator for several NamesCon panels next month in Las Vegas. Braden knows this business better than most, and I have heard that he has done a great job of panel moderation at other industry events.

According to Braden, “NamesCon is really shaping up to be a great conference. I feel honored to have been asked to moderate at the show. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone in Vegas next month.”

The panels will cover a
