After $100M in Sales, Donuts Appoints New Executives

I knew Donuts had sold over 2 million new gTLD domain names, but I did not realize that the company had achieved over $100 million in sales. I learned this in a press release that was distributed by the company this morning announcing some new company executives and an addition to the Board of Directors.

Here’s a copy of the press release announcing the news:

There Are Now Over 14 Million New gTLD Domains

0

According to the updated statistics on nTLDStats.com, there are now over 14 million registered new gTLD domain names. What makes this figure more notable is that the registration number just passed 12.5 million registrations 3 weeks ago on February 10. There has been a clear spike in domain name registrations over the last several weeks.

Check out this screenshot of the growth in registered new gTLD domain names since approximately the beginning of the year (courtesy of nTLDStats.com):

Radix Ready to Launch .Store Extension

After competing with six other applicants including Google and Amazon, Radix prevailed and won the right to operate the .Store new gTLD domain extension. Sunrise for this extension will begin on April 6th. General availability, when anyone can hand register available .Store domain names, will begin on June 14.

One advantage that Radix has is that it is launching before a competing .Shop extension. I think being first to market is key when it comes to competing extensions.

I would imagine the first target audience for .Store domain names is companies who already use “Store” in their brand names. According to DomainTools’ search tool, there are a TON of domain names that currently end with the word “store.” For instance, there are thousands of popular keywordStore domain names registered in hundreds of extensions. Some of those keywords include drug, baby, online, book, play, pet…etc. I would imagine some of those brand owners will choose a name like Pet.Store or something else along those lines.

I do not have pricing details, but it will be interesting to follow along, especially when

Sedo Showing Off New Domain Extensions at SXSW

Sedo_Domain_Village_SXSWSedo is opening its “Sedo.com Domain Village” at this year’s South by Southwest conference in Austin. The exhibition area is intended to inform SXSW attendees about the new domain extensions and how they can be used. Sedo is partnering with Uniregistry, Radix, Rightside, .club, .me, .top, .asia, .rest and .bar for this year’s appearance.

According to a Sedo press release touting the Sedo Domain Village, the company is expecting to see 20,000 visitors between March 12th and 17th. Last year, over 8,000 people visited Sedo’s frozen yogurt truck. I presume that last year’s exhibit was successful enough to warrant an expansion this year.

Some of the websites that Sedo is promoting with its creative exhibits include:

Facts About .Sydney on Its First Birthday

The .Sydney geographic domain name extension turned one today. To date, over 9,000 .Sydney domain names have been registered, and according to nTLDStats.com, there are over 8,200 active .Sydney domain names in the zonefile. The City of Sydney Australia operates the WhatsOn.Sydney website, and there are restaurants, hotels, and other local businesses that use other .Sydney domain names.

According to a press release marking the first anniversary, “Sydneysiders can enjoy special birthday offers for a limited time courtesy of domain name retailers Crazy Domains, Melbourne IT and Netregistry.” People interested in seeing the special offers can visit Get.Sydney to register .Sydney domain names.

In celebration of the one year anniversary of .Sydney, I was sent some of the following facts and figures about .Sydney domain names. I would have preferred that the registry send me to .Sydney to see the extension in action, but for now, we can check this out:
