I wrote a post this morning about why I am not attending TRAFFIC in San Jose. I was planning to watch the Moniker TRAFFIC auction this evening, however.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like this will happen. I checked in on WebmasterRadio.FM and the auction wasn’t beaing streamed over the radio. I visited Domaining.com and UStream.tv hoping to find a video feed – no dice.
I did find the page on Snapnames where I can download the software – but I don’t operate on a laptop with Windows, the first requirement of the auction software. I’ve mentioned this before, but it still hasn’t been fixed.
I am not a big auction buyer, and I suppose if I planned to bid I would have gone through other channels. However, it’s disappointing – although it does free up 3 hours I had initially set aside.
I asked Monte to can show the Live in domaining.com without success.
So the only way for watchers is from SnapNames.com if you have windows.
I understand your frustration, follow results on DNN.com.
Hi Elliot:
Sorry you are missing the action. Not a bad auction.
Just a thought…for about $400 you can pick up new windows laptop and use it as a spare. We really don’t live in a Mac world.
Mark
I always thought you can wun Windows on MAC…?
@D
You can, but I don’t. I have enough apps on my Macbook and don’t want to add more just so I can bid on or watch a domain auction.
you need to just buy VMWare or Parallels and install XP or something on your Mac.. I did this just for the snap s/w and some other minor programs that don’t run on my Mac 😉
@SM
WTF have you been?!?!
busy dude 🙂 launching some other projects non-domain related… hit me up on gmail we’ll chat
> I always thought you can wun Windows on MAC…?
Yes, if it’s the more recent INTEL Mac.
Those of us who are quite happy with our Motorla Macs
can’t run WinDoze, or get the M$ viruses etc. (Yay!)
These (legacy ?) Macs just keep running, and running …
The ‘download a M$ Win app’ requirement doesn’t just
cut out Mac users; Linux users, those who may not instal
any executable program on a newtwork etc. etc.
‘Instal a Win. app’ services/auctions only shoot themselves in the
metaphorical foot by denying access to a growing demographic.
Im looking at changing to a mac
I know there has been a few posts on here and also on mikes blog
– What are the thoughts Elliot now you have been using it for a while are they good?
Elliot, you are my HERO.
I am all MAC in my office and house. I have five of them. I’m sick of those losers who can’t allow us computer elites to participate in their events… they lose a lot of people with a lot of money. Why? Cuz Mac owners are people who CARE about their computer experience and are willing to pay a little more to get the best.
I’ve been a mac user and tech consultant since 1985.
I agree with you tho… every website should include Mac users in their programs, or they are losing 10% of their visitors, and those visitors usually have more money than those pitiful PC users. LOL (I can’t wait for the hate mail)
I do like, however, the micro PC’s you can buy for about $300 now. I would use them just to search up stuff on TV that I want to know more about while watching the Discovery channel. So i would use the lowly PC just for online wiki searches.
However, in my business, for safety, ease of use, comfort, great interface, and just plain community love, man, nothing can beat a Mac. I have easily converted over 50 of my friends and family to Macs in the last ten years.
I apologize to them for the shortsightedness of companies who feel that including Mac users is “not needed”. Big mistake. I’m sending Justin Long over to all companies ignoring Mac users to kick their *sses. lol
Great post, and Elliot, I have even more respect for you knowing now that you are a Mac compadre!
seems crazy that such a large company only let’s you use windows…they should be bending over backwards to get to any and everyone that may want to watch or bid.
If I’m a buyer I’m feeling great about it.
Even though I appreciate the Moniker auctions which I have 5 names listed at the live auction at Traffic, unless you are going to bid there is no reason to check in.
Thanks, Jim
@ Jim
I like to follow along even though I hardly ever bid. It gives a good barometer of the industry.
So what are you going to do with your 3 hours?? 😉
@Jess
😉
You were missed in SD.
I found out my name ForeclosureRefinance.com sold for $4,000 at Moniker’s Auction. I thought it would go much hight. However, not bad ROI for a name that cost me $9.00
in 2003.
Now for the really bad news, my wife thinks that money is going towards new carpet for our house:(
I might have to look to buy exwife.com if she thinks we are getting new carpet especially with 16 month twins at home:)
@ Jim
With two twins, I would buy the carpet… child support will be much more expensive over the next 16+ years!
BTW, Owen is selling iNeedaDivorce.com – hope your wife doesn’t see that one 🙂
@Jim – Congrats! I have a similar domain I didn’t submit
@Jim – Ouch! new carpets and twins don’t mix well
@ Elliot – HOMEWRECKER!!!
I have the same problem with my wife except she doesn’t spend money, she just wants it in the bank, at that whopping .05% interest. Good grief. I hate making the banks rich investing my money.
99% women are based on emotion and not on reason. The 1% of women who read this blog, your not included:)
Getting new carpet with 16 month old twins is like driving in rain and mud after getting a car wash. No logic and I am sure many married men can relate.
Thanks, Jim
It is a shame too that domainsponsor.com can only be used properly with Internet Explorer in Windows.
Currently using a PC.
AM thinking of moving to Mac or Linux if I can find good substitutes for:
Domain Research Tool
Excel 2007 (large spreadsheet capability)
@ zoikland – Be aware that Mac’s can run any program that a PC can, and faster, without viruses and other nasties. Mac’s are able to run on two operating systems… the best OS (Leopard), and also the feeble Microsoft Windows new update, or “limping lizard”.
MACS RULE!
