.SI, .AI, .XYZ, .IO, .CO, .com

There’s been a lot of talk on domain investor discussion outlets regarding .SI domain names. .SI is the ccTLD extension for the country of Slovenia, and the extension is managed by the Academic and Research Network of Slovenia rather than a marketing firm looking to grow the extension.

Lately, as AI and .AI domain names have grown in breadth and value, a number of domain investors have discussed how .SI can stand for “superintelligence” in a similar fashion to how the Anguilla ccTLD became popular amongst AI startups and companies. The thought, it seems, is that now is an early time to buy .SI domain names akin to 10+ years ago for .AI domain names.

A few years ago, there was a lot of talk about IO, .XYZ and .CO domain names being favored by startups, particularly those in the tech, crypto and blockchain fields. People spent hours and hours chatting, debating, arguing, and discussing these extensions. This followed the growth of .LY, .ME, and other extensions that had their time in the spotlight.

All of this discussion is great to see. I don’t spend a lot of time engaging on X, domain forums, Discords, blogs, or elsewhere, but it is pretty awesome to see all of the active discussions going on about domain names.

The domain industry is relatively small. There may be a few thousand people globally who actively buy and sell domain names as investments. A good portion of these people do this without even knowing about this is a massive revenue-generating business.

There are days when I take a look at X, Domaining.com, or visit Namepros and there isn’t much in the way of interesting discussion. These days, there has been a lot of talk about what’s next, as people try to convince others that .SI is going to grow in the same way as .AI. Honestly, I have no idea and absolutely no skin in that game.

It’s fun to see all of this discussion happening. Time will tell how it all pans out.

  1. It is certainly worth speculating in with the low entry costs and major AI companies like Recursive that have investing in .SI domains. Superintelligence isn’t a new concept, even Meta started their own Meta Superintelligence Labs in 2025. With the direction AI is headed, .SI is a nice addition to a crowded .AI space.

    • No need to try and sell me on it.

If I start seeing hundreds of funded companies and startups choosing it, I may deploy some capital.

I’d rather be late to the party than have my money sitting idle for something that may never happen.

I missed the main rush on .AI but have done pretty well with them in the last couple of years.

Happy to do the same with .SI if I see development on a much larger scale than I have seen so far.

  2. As a longtime domain buyer broker, I get approached every day by end-users (startup founders, serial entrepreneurs, marketing execs) wanting our help to buy domain names. As of today, the number of these folks asking us about getting a .SI domain is zero.

They typically want .COM (of course), but .AI and .CO are popular, along with their local ccTLD.

We’ve had more inquiries for .GG and .VC and .WORLD domains, to put things into perspective.

Good luck to anyone speculating in .SI, and don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
