Many of the people I’ve had conversations with at NamesCon have commented about the transition from Elliot’s Blog to DomainInvesting.com. The migration took place three months ago today, and I thought I would share some of the high level year over year comparison from Google Analytics to give you an idea of how things are going so far.
DomainInvesting.com has received 9.65% more visits between October 15, 2013 – January 14, 2014 than it received between October 15, 2012 – January 14, 2013. For the same time period comparison, DomainInvesting.com has had 11.93% more unique visits and 6.36% additional pageviews. The only metric that is off is a 3% decrease in pages per visit. The bounce rate sits at 78.43% (the correct bounce rate is 14.60%).
Now that it’s been three months, the Alexa score for the site should be fully baked, as the metric is based off of a 3 month time period. I don’t think Alexa tells the full story about a website’s popularity, but I think it’s a good indicator of a website’s health. As of today, DomainInvesting.com has an Alexa ranking of 16,697.
As I’ve told some of the people who have asked, I am still appreciative of the onsite optimization work done by EverSpark Interactive. Cleaning up some of the onsite issues were important, and that work has paid off. I met with company CEO Jason Hennessey here at NamesCon, and he was happy to hear things were going well.
I will continue to do my best to provide interesting commentary and information, and I appreciate that you have made my blog a daily destination for domain investment insight.
Great to hear you’re working with Jason. He’s a great guy, really knows what he’s doing.
What happened January 1st? Looks like the site had a huge dip in traffic on that day according to semrush:
http://www.semrush.com/info/domaininvesting.com
Could be just bad data that SEMrush has, but if that’s not the case I would look into it.
I don’t see any datapoint for January 1.
Traffic seems to be steady though. Where should I start exploring to see if there is an issue though?
Thanks again for pointing this out to me.
I believe that the traffic decrease on January 1st was due to the fact that the readers of Elliot’s blog tend to be a group that indulges in excessive amounts of alcohol and that they were all too hungover on New Year’s Day to hang out reading his blog. π
I’ll reserve my explanation for next months article of why traffic increased between January 15th – February 15th.
I look forward to reading another insightful comment like this one.
Likewise π
ah yes… i see what you’re saying.
bounce rate > 78 is still high ? maybe some of visitors accessed your website via keyword ” investing” more than “domain”
You are right that it’s a high number, and I actually made an error when I posted. The rate is 14.60% (https://www.domaininvesting.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/Screen-Shot-2014-01-16-at-8.35.25-AM.png)
That lower bounce rate makes a lot more sense. I would have been shocked if your site had a bounce rate anywhere near 78%. That number really jumped out at me.
I should have reviewed the article before I flew home, but it is now corrected π
You were missed in Las Vegas.
