Lovable Becomes “Unicorn” on a .Dev Domain Name

Lovable is a popular “vibe coding” startup that has quickly become a leader in that space. Lovable was founded just 8 months ago, and TechCrunch reported that the startup just achieved unicorn status – a valuation of $1 billion or more. The company raised a $200 million Series A funding round, and it now has a $1.8 billion valuation.

Notably to domain investors, Lovable has done this with a brand matching .Dev domain name.

Loveable.com is owned by an Italian clothing company that is also branded as Lovable. Lovable.com forwards to the company’s website on Lovable.it. Archive.org shows the .com domain name has been forwarding to the .IT domain name for many years.

While it has long been believed that major companies need a .com domain name to achieve success, Lovable shows that is not always the case. The company has grown wildly using the lesser-known .Dev domain extension. Its target audience is probably more familiar with alternative extensions. Their view could be that the .Dev extension is not a hindrance but actually a meaningful and positive signal aligned with what Lovable is offering.

There aren’t a ton of companies that have achieved unicorn status with an alternative domain name, but Lovable is a good example of a company that is embracing its non-.com extension.

  1. very interesting.
i guess it shows with enough money you can put quotes around anything and put it on a billboard ?

that said i typed in loveable.com the first attempt (with the extra ‘e’

hopefully they cover all the typos

  2. It looks like loveable.com (with the “e”) is owned by the unicorn. It will be interesting to see if they also own lovable.com a few months from now…

    • Brian beat me to it. But although loveable.com forwards to the unicorn, strangely it still seems to be owned by World Media Group (world.com).

  3. as an old school coder – i candidly do not know much about “vibe coding” other than its just another marketing buzz word..
looks like they should go after lovable.AI as well ?

  4. I’ve been using Lovable for about 6 months to build prototypes. It’s a super product
Another AI tool Bolt uses a crazy extension

Both will upgrade, me thinks, to either .com or .ai
1.8 billion valuation after just 8 months is wild
