There have been a number of comments posted on my blog where the commenter has expressed a view that either disputes something I said or opposes my viewpoint. ย I want to say thank you to everyone who takes the time to express their opinions here even when they are 180 degrees from what I post.
I have been a domain investor for a few years and recently moved to domain development. As they say, I know enough about a lot of things to be dangerous ๐ but I still don’t consider myself an expert in many areas. There are many ways to be successful online, and a lot of people have different experiences than mine. Sharing them is what makes my blog more interesting, and I appreciate all comments.
Unless a comment gets caught by my Askimet spam filter or is abusive to me or someone else, I will approve it. I don’t censor my blog comments because I don’t think it’s right to do that and it would make for an uninteresting one-way discussion if I only posted comments that were in agreement with what I wrote. Whether we agree or disagree, I like to think that I’d still go out for a coffee or meal with just about everyone who posts here. I’ve learned a lot from you, and I hope you’ve also learned a lot from others who have posted comments here.
If you write a comment and it doesn’t show up, it’s more than likely that it ended up getting blocked by Askimet, so just drop me a note to let me know. It also might be that I am busy on another project or my Blackberry doesn’t have reception. I get hundreds of spam comments a day, and some do get filtered in error. If you wrote something rude or abusive, I probably won’t post it because that’s not constructive.
“I know enough about a lot of things to be dangerous ๐ but I still donโt consider myself an expert in many areas.”
Sorry Elliot, I have to dissent…=) You are an expert.
(On a related note, I really enjoy your posts about developing your geo’s. I think you have good examples and experiance.)
Elliot,
Just went through this on my blog too, I had been running around crazy and not responded to a critical comment since it was anonymous so I didnt prioritize it above money making work I was doing.
I do not censor any comments but I do prioritize my work to focus on what is most productive. I actually enjoy responding to critical comments since I think that can be very valuable discussion.
I cannot think of anytime I have ever censored anything other than pure spam or vulgar comments.
Spot on Elliot.

For spam comments, add CAPTCHA to your form. That would help with about 95% of spam comments.
Elliot:
Here is another one not agreeing with you..sort of… ๐
You say “I don’t consider myself an expert in many areas”…
To me, and I guess for many of us, you seem to be expert enough, in many areas, to be sort of like a teacher or e-mentor or a positive catalyst agent if you wish, with what you write in respect to what we do.
There are lots of wisdom in your posts and of course, I considered all of that info to be, somehow, proven arts and techniques… proven with yourself, with your own business, which we all assume. better yet, see it has gotten successful, (just look at this very blog). !
Keep on the good job, and thanks for being so open in sharing your “secrets of the trade”, (there are very few out there like you)!
I really mean it.
FB
this site totally sucks because it lacks respect for .mobi and other extensions
No More Mister Nice Guy,
Sorry you feel that way about Elliot’s Blog.
If you base intellect on dotMobi names please feel free
to make me an offer on any of the names below.
( Sorry Elliot, I’ve never done this on a blog before
but the timing seemed purely ” APPROPRIATE “).

Hey Elliot,
Check out wp-spam best anti-comment spam plugin ever.
Being a developer is alot more fun that being an investor ๐
Hi El-Silver,
I want to complain about the fact that you are younger, better looking, a ZZ Top defined “sharp-dressed-man,” and more proficient in providing helpful info for domainers than I am. This is disconcerting to me and keeping me up all night.
What can i do about this, short of encouraging people to write you nasty comments? When will you stop being so likeable? Can’t you just lose it some night after heavy drinking and just unload on someone and publish it? (not me, someone else).
๐ Truthfully, you are one of the most fair domain bloggers in the short list of expert blogs. Keep up the good work, but for me, screw up once in a while like I do.
your bodyguard,
Stephen
Elliot,
Just keep up the good work. Your blog is the best one out there for practical advice. I know I speak for many other readers when I say you are very much appreciated.
Doug
I find your blog really informative, not only for the posts but also for the comments exchanged. Sure every blog must have it’s fair share of douche bags posting non-sense/envious comments, but if they took the time to write their comments it’s because your post was important to them whether they will admit it or not.
Keep up the good work.
Elliot:
Keep up the good work. I read your blog daily. Every post you make is unique, and I appreciate the thoughtfulness behind each one.
I’ve started my own blog to help starting internet entrepreneurs, and you’ve been a terrific inspiration. Your willingness to share such intelligent revelations, comments, etc. is very telling to me.
Anyways, I’d love to buy you a beer the next time I’m in NYC. (Ignore the fact that I can’t legally buy alcohol yet).
Take care,
Peter
