Created in 1988, Datapoint.com in Auction at GoDaddy

One of the oldest domain names in existence is in auction on GoDaddy Auctions. The auction will conclude in approximately one week. Datapoint.com was originally created in April of 1988. While the domain name is not listed on the Wikipedia page for the 100 oldest .com domain names, it has been registered for 33 years. The auction was highlighted today on Twitter by Jamie Zoch:

Datapoint.com is registered at 123-Reg Limited. Because the registrar is a GoDaddy expiry-stream partner, the domain name will be auctioned via GoDaddy Auctions. I am not sure if the registrant still has the ability to renew this domain name before the auction. The domain name does not resolve to an active landing page.

Using the Whois History tool at DomainTools, it appears this domain name was previously owned by a London-based telecommunications company. I am sure they have fielded many emails from investors looking to acquire the domain name in private before the auction.

At the time of publication, the high bid is just shy of $24,000. GoDaddy’s Appraisal tool values this name at just $19,876.
