Atom.com recently introduced its Domain Talk feature. The Domain Talk feature is an AI-generated audio snippet that appears on a domain’s landing page, offering a creative description of how the domain name could be used. The may help a potential buyer visualize branding possibilities, and that may help boost interest and increase the chances of selling a domain name.
While Domain Talk rolled out piecemeal and I only received a notification about it being added to a couple of my domain names, users are now able to generate their own Domain Talk snippets for their landing pages. Atom is allowing users to use “AI credits” to generate these snippets. Previously, these credits were solely used for image and logo creation.
I received some free AI credits, and I presume others did as well since this appears to be a marketing email rather than targeting me as an industry commentator. For those who wish to purchase AI credits, the cost is $.10/each. This price may be different depending on account tiers – I am unsure.
I don’t see any downside to adding these voiceover snippets, so I will probably use my credits to create the snippets for some of my more valuable domain names. I don’t think I will buy additional credits until I see some data showing the success of the Domain Talk feature.
Frankly speaking, if the Domain Talk snippets help boost sales, it would make sense for Atom to add one for all of its listings, starting with its most valuable domain names. Perhaps that will come at some point.
Domain Talk could reinforce and expand buyers’ intentions for using (and therefore buying) a domain name, especially esoteric ones. For an example: Meditation.Place
Listening to a voice snippet can slow a buyer down, in a good way, and provide them with time to more fully consider the benefits a domain than if they were rapidly browsing through multiple options.
First iterations of new services or features often disappoint, generally, but I find Domain Talk surprisingly good. It’s not something I’ll add to every listing, but I would urge people to at least try it.
