The .Club Registry was in the news recently when it was announced that GoDaddy had a deal to acquire the .Club extension. Introduced in 2014, .Club has been one of the most successful new gTLD extensions, and it currently boasts more than 1.1 million domain registrations, according to nTLDstats.com.

To celebrate its 7th birthday, the .Club Registry shared the video below with highlights from the last seven years:

Alt.Bank is a Super Confusing, Non-New gTLD Brand

I saw a TechCrunch tweet about a Brazilian startup called Alt.bank, and it caught my attention because of the new gTLD that was auto-hyperlinked in the tweet:

I clicked the Alt.bank link in the tweet, and it did not resolve for me. I clicked through to the TechCrunch article, and I saw why the website doesn’t resolve there. The banking startup’s brand might be Alt.bank, but the company can’t be found on Alt.bank. Instead, the company uses the AltBank.com.br ccTLD for its website.

NFL Registers Robert Saleh Sucks Domain Names

Earlier this year, the NFL’s New York Jets hired Robert Saleh as the team’s Head Coach. The Jets were widely praised for this hiring. In fact, it was probably the best decision the team has made in many years. If you don’t watch NFL football, you should know the NY Jets have not been a decent football team in several years. I say this as a loyal New England Patriots fan, but I think the team’s record speaks for itself.

I was looking through some domain name registrations, and it appears the NFL and/or New York Jets are preparing for Coach Saleh to have a rough go of it. Last week, the NFL registered at least three domain names related to Coach Saleh sucking. Whois records show that the NFL registered the following domain names via its brand protection domain name registrar, MarkMonitor:

Register.com “Stuffing” .Site Domain Names

Rick Schwartz shared the content of an email he received from Register.com, in which he was given a .Site domain name. A Whois search reveals Rick owns LastLaughs.com, which is registered at Register.com. The email to Rick offered him LastLaughs.Site, under the guise of Register.com’s “Brand Protection Program.”

Frank Schilling Comments on His Upcoming gTLD Auctions

Uni Naming & Registry (UNR) is a domain name registry operator and backend services provider founded by Frank Schilling. The company was split off from other domain industry assets when GoDaddy acquired Uniregistry and Name Administration from Frank in early 2020. UNR has continued to operate a mix of its own domain name extensions and extensions owned by other companies.

Late yesterday, I noticed a recently launched website on Auction.Link announcing a major no-reserve auction for domain name extensions that are owned and operated by UNR. The company published a press release (below) with more details about the auction. In total, the company is selling 23 domain name endings, including:
