LA.com Acquired for $1.2 Million

Back in September of 2015, GoDaddy was brokering the LA.com and SV.com domain names on behalf of a media company called MediaNews Group. Earlier this year, it was revealed that GoDaddy and eNaming brokered the sale of SV.com for an undisclosed figure. Later, LA.com was acquired by the publisher of the LA Times for an undisclosed amount, as reported by Domain Name Wire.

Last night, George Kirikos uncovered the purchase price of LA.com, which he shared on Twitter:

According to the Tribune Publishing Company’s quarterly report, the company paid

FF.com Acquired by Faraday Future

FF.com

Faraday Future has acquired the valuable FF.com domain name, according to an announcement made this morning in the company’s newsletter. If you visit FaradayFuture.com, you will see that the domain name is now forwarding directly to FF.com. For those who aren’t aware, Faraday Future is a car company focusing on electric vehicles.

Back in September of 2015, Jamie Zoch mentioned via Twitter that the FF.com domain name may have been sold. The FF.com domain name had been owned by Bank of America prior to its sale. The FF.com Whois information is private.

In its newsletter today, Faraday Future told recipients the following:

Outbound Marketing Shouldn’t Be Penalized

In the Gekko.com UDRP decision I wrote about yesterday morning, the panelist wrote, “The Panel finds that Respondent’s offer to sell the disputed domain name to Complainant is not relevant as Respondent was first approached by Complainant to sell the disputed domain name.” (emphasis added by me). This seems to imply that it would be relevant if the respondent had approached the complainant rather than the other way around. This bothers me.

One of my companies is called Top Notch Domains, LLC, and I have used TopNotchDomains.com for my website for 10 years. I would love to own TopNotch.com. Not only would it be easier for me to share, but it is easier for people to remember. It’s also a valuable asset because there are so many companies called “Top Notch” something or other. I know the domain name has been owned for a very long time, so I don’t even bother to inquire about it. I figure the owner is using it and perhaps it would be too expensive for me to buy.

That said, I would love it if the owner

UDRP Filed Against Bellhops.com, a Dictionary .com Domain Name (Updated)

When I check into a hotel with my family, I usually rely on the bellhops to help me unload my car (or cab) and take my belongings to my hotel room. Dictionary.com defines a bellhop as “a person who is employed, especially by a hotel, to carry guests’ luggage, run errands, etc.” According to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) database, a company called Bellhops, Inc. filed a UDRP to try and wrest control of the Bellhops.com domain name. The UDRP is WIPO case D2016-0756.

As you might expect with a keyword .com domain name like this, Bellhops.com has been registered for a very long time – over 15 years. It was created back in 2000. The domain name has been privately registered since 2010, so I am not sure who owns Bellhops.com. Visiting the domain name forwards me to a different website. I believe this is a zero click landing page based on the url I saw in my browser.

My guess is that the complainant, which is listed on the UDRP page as

“The Perils of Not Buying Your Domain Name Quick Enough”

I wanted to share a funny tweet with you that has to do with not buying a domain name quickly enough.

According to Wikipedia, “Vote Leave is an organisation that campaigns for Britain to leave the European Union.” Because of its UK-ties, I would imagine VoteLeave.co.uk would be an important domain name to own. People likely type it in seeking information about the movement, and they might expect to find something official there. Apparently, this is not the case as evidenced by Emma Kennedy:

10 Funny Donald Trump Domain Registrations

Every month, Verisign publishes a report with the 10 trending keywords in .com and .net domain registrations from the prior month. For the last two months, “trump” has been one of the ten trending keywords for .com registrations. This is obviously related to Republican US Presidential candidate, Donald Trump.

Using Verisign’s DomainView tool, I had a look at newly registered domain names that contain the word “trump” in them. I would guess that the vast majority of these registrations were related to Mr. Trump, and some of them are pretty funny.

Here is a list of ten funny Donald Trump domain registrations from the last 30 days:
