Video: How Anime.com was Acquired

2

I heard the Anime.com domain name had been recently acquired, but I knew nothing about it. Anime is a a style of Japanese animation, and it is popular throughout the world. Obviously, Anime.com would be a fantastic brand for creators and people who enjoy watching this genre of animation.

I came across a video interview conducted by Leon Abboud featuring Alex Xu, the founder of the company that acquired Anime.com. The interview is a bit longer than 40 minutes, and it touches on the acquisition of the Anime.com domain name. Not surprisingly, the domain name had a $10 million price tag, and it was listed for sale via GoDaddy.

Negotiating Like Double Down Video Poker

When I was 18, I went on a Royal Caribbean cruise with my family. It was the first time I was able to gamble in a casino. One night during dinner, I left the table to play video poker in the casino. I returned about 30 minutes later hunched over from carrying buckets full of quarters.

The video poker game had a double up feature. When I won a hand, the game gave me the option to double my winnings by choosing a card that was higher than the dealer’s. I could continue to choose to double down until I cashed out or lost. I won a big hand and successfully doubled a bunch of times until I cashed out with buckets full of quarters. Even though the win wasn’t technically a jackpot, the casino gave me a “jackpot” t-shirt because it was a substantial win.

Meta Acquires Threads.com Domain Name

In July of last year, Meta (formerly known as Facebook) launched a social networking service to compete with Twitter, now known as X. The service was branded Threads, and the company used the Threads.net domain name for its platform. Threads.com was owned by another business, which was highlighted in Fast Company following Meta’s Threads launch.

In June of this year, the app running on Threads.com was sold to Shopify. Some people speculated that this acquisition could make the Threads.com domain name available for Meta to acquire for its Threads platform. It looks like this just happened.

I’ve been asked to look at numerous domain name sales landing pages lately. I will generally be happy to take a look if I have the time, but I thought I would share what I think are the most important elements to a BIN landing page for domain name sales.

1) Domain name quality
2) BIN price
3) Ability to easily transact securely
and/or 4) Ability to contact seller

Stride Funding Rebrands as Clasp with Clasp.com

Tim Hargis alerted me about a recent corporate rebrand. A company called Stride Funding, which had previously been funded to the tune of $20 million, announced it was rebranding itself as Clasp. In addition, the company announced a $10 million oversubscribed venture funding round. Wisely, the company acquired the brand match Clasp.com domain name prior to the rebrand announcement.

Tess Michaels, Founder of Clasp, shared why the company rebranded in a post on LinkedIn. Tess also specifically mentioned the Clasp.com domain name, presumably because acquiring it is a signal of strength:
