Artificial Intelligence can be a time saver. For domain investors, it can make it easier and quicker to create marketing copy to help promote a domain name. Over the last couple of years, domain name sales platforms and domain investors have utilized AI tools to help generate sales copy for their domain names. This can be risky, as attorney John Berryhill noted on X today regarding some Atom.com landing pages he found:
The hazards of AI-generated domain landers… @atomHQ Anyone want to guess why this name would be associated with bricks or “building something”? pic.twitter.com/ACvcWO03cR

AI can save time and help people craft catchy sales messaging, but it may not be smart enough to know it is referencing a popular trademark or trademarked term. Referencing a trademarked term within a domain name can turn a defensible domain name into a liability if the trademark owner or representative of the owner were to come across it.
If domain investors are going to use AI to generate descriptions for domain names, they should spend some time reviewing them before publishing to prevent accidental trademark infringement. Platforms that utilize AI for domain name descriptions need to take additional care in training its AI tools to prevent referencing trademarked terms in descriptions. It doesn’t benefit the platform or its sellers, and it can pose significant risks to sellers.
So what wil atom do about this? They have a disclaimer so they are not held responsible if anything happens..They should have known their auto generated description will spell trouble for the domain owner .
The Q is do people really read disclaimer and it changes all the time.
remember folks, listen to the BS song at BullShitWebsites.com
There a video too.
you gonna save alot of money
a better warning would be Beware of registering worthless domains
You can read that warning about 15 years ago 🙂
The people who need that warning won’t understand it’s directed at them. This is a bit more actionable.
Any examples please.
A reminder that trademark protection is industry specific although there can be a blurring of the lines:
